Does anyone here have any experience using flats on a Stingray? (the new 2 HB model, 3 EQ). I just wondered how the sound compared to the rounds. Would it still be as versatile with flatwounds?

Welcome to the forum bobalu!:D

Many people here love flats on their StingRay's and I'm sure some of them will chime ie soon. I have a set of Group II's on my SR4 and they sound great, but I'm going back to a lighter gauge. Only for my personal comfort though.

Have fun here and post some pictures of your bass, we'd love to see her.

Welcome welcome!

I, personally, haven't had enough experience with SR4s or flats to even predict the sound but Travis should be here soon with some info about flats.

My Bongo H has flats and I find it extremely versatile, with one exception. If one has the predelection to beating one's bass with their thumb, one might not like the flats all that much. Other than that, my favorite sets of strings whether rounds or flats have always been very responsive to changes in right hand technique. Combine that with some of the best EQ's in the biz and any Musicman bass can be versatile.

Thank-you for the welcome guy's! PW, I'll post a picture soon. The Stingray is black with a maple fb, and a white pg (which I'm changing to black). Pretty plain jane I guess, but Music Mans are a bit scarce here, ya gotta takes what the store gets sometimes! Most are sold before they come into the store. I played it and couldn't put it down. Amazing versatile tone. I'm itchin' to put some flats on though (love them on my J bass).

Don't apologise for your bass man. Some of us prefer "plain". Black/Black/Maple = very nice!
