how do flatwound strings feel,i think my bongo has them on it,but i have never bought flatwound strings so i am not sure.I asked the guy i got it from but he didn't know what strings are on it.

They feel really gritty and sharp,in a good way and if they are flats then i really like them.

sorry for being a dumba$$,but for about 10 years my strings have been slinkys, and never looked into flats because i was really happy.

Cheers

flatwounds feel flat.. ;)

roundwounds consist of round wire and when you run your finger down the string you will feel the "bumps" in the string, while the flatwound should be like a thick flat wire.. completely smooth when you run your finger down the string..

hth!

Sound like roundwounds to me. With flats, you don't really feel anything on the string. They're pretty darn flat.

Curious - do they feel that much different from the Slinky's you're used to? Sounds like they're roundwounds of some variety or another.

You'll definitely know they're flats by just lookin at them. It's as if you took your fatty roundwound bass strings and smashed them with a hammer, while still keeping the string itself round. Make sense??

cheers guys,by the sound of it they are not flats.might be steel wound ?? all i know is they are not like my normal slinkys.

i never really explored any other strings as i was really happy with slinkys,i went from using 95's to 110's and now back to 105's but always used slinkys.I would just love to know what these are........and i taught with my bongo and the LMII head i was finally sorted and would stop looking for other stuff and now i just moved on to looking at strings !!! pants !!!

Flats

You probably have the original strings on that bass regular slinky's.
The flat wound string means exactly that they are flat but still round, no ribs at all..

I can tell you from experience the slinky's are great. You get a lot of over tones and brighter sound etc.
The flats they are my favorite.. since installing them a few weeks ago.. man what different sound you get. Great sound with them..

I'd recommend you try a set of Flats at least once.. That way you will know first hand what the diff is..and how the feel of the string differs.

I think you will like them.:D

I wish I could find flat wounds for guitars... Does EB make these? I remember playing an old Hofner which had hollow flatwound strings... Wow! really fun tone... Almost impossible to bend though... No grip... whahahaha...

They seem steel wound to me. I have some unknown steel wounds on my bass and they look very similar, except they have silk on the ends, but I have a set of Slinkys ready to replace them. Once I do I'll tell you the difference to see if that's what you're feeling with yours right now. I might not change then soon though, don't wait for me.

they're definitely not flats, definitely no ours and I owuld have to agree with Rafael .... they look like stainless steel. And I'm basing that answer solely on the color
