They have one of those down your way...'cause that's the one band I haven't seen any cover band take on...yet.

There is a Yes tribute in the Sac/Dixon area . They opened for us (the gator alley band) @ a gig in August '05.

They had a chick in front cuz as you all know, John Andersons sack has not dropped yet, so they had to get a chick!

They were good. But, they seemed to piss the crowd off . Don't know why, that's all I remember of them. Oh, and their bassist had this HOOOGE pedal board and a "Ric" of course. I think there is a law out there that if you play in a Yes tribute you have to have one of those or something.

Well, my thoughts on flats are well-known and by now, I'm sure, repetitive and boring. Bear with me, though, because I'm trying to get my post count up.

1. If you are looking for that old school Motown/Stax thump, you need to try some flats.

2. If you are playing blues or 'classic' country or rockabilly, you need to try some flats.

3. If you are in a Yes cover band, you probably don't need to try some flats, although you never know.

That is all.

Jack;
I disagree massively. Have you tried them?
Still, each to their own - there's no point in even arguing.
Incidentally.........What about Rock? Steve Harris uses flats.
And disco/funk? Bernard Edwards used them.
They're wicked for slap - in my opinion.
EB flats with a 3EQ or Bongo EQ will do pretty much everything you need tonally.
I think.

I love the extra thump you get with Flats when I do old school R&B (Motown/Stax/Atlantic). Otherwise, it's Hybrids for everything else.

NickyT,

I have eight or nine basses around at any given time. Only one of them is strung with roundwounds. I am a dedicated flats guy. I really think they can do almost anything.....just not 1972-era Chris Squire.

Flats, baby, and I every bass I've ever owned has wanted to grow up to be this bass.

Desert island, all that.

Going to try Flats on my next Ray; kind of change up the tones between the two basses.
I currently use D'addario Chromes on my Stingray and it provides great tone and playability. Smooth and fast.......

Well the flats are on the SR4... this going to take some getting use to. :D

They feel soooo different, it will take a lot less beer to really get to know them...

Run 'em through any of your Ampeg rigs, and let me know what you think.

Isn't that the weirdest? I'm still trying to get used to mine. So used to that roundwound feel.
