So Modulus is gone. No more graphite necked
Flea basses. Now EBMM resurrects the Cutlass
name, but without its original, special graphite
neck. IIRC MM just dropped the Sabre model.
But wasn't a Cutlass originally simply a Sabre

I'm fairly sure Modulus is still around, though they are smaller. They posted pics from NAMM a few weeks ago on Facebook too. Are they gone again?
Look at planetbass.com for info on Modulus. The shop isn't far from where I live, haven't been there though.

So, it's been a while now since Modulus shut down... I'd sure like to see a Stingray back in the capable hands of the one and only Flea. Whatcha think?... Flea signature bass maybe? Thoughts BP?

I've always found it sort of interesting that a large percentage of EBMM guitars are artist signature models (All the JPs, Luke, Albert Lee, St Vincent, Morse, Valentine) where as none of the basses are signature. I've always really appreciated how the EBMM signature instruments are actually their own instruments, as opposed to something like "The John Petrucci Silhouette" like, for instance, every Fender signature instrument is. That said, a "Flea Stingray" with a graphite-neck and in some wacky colors could be fun. The Flea Basses are clearly very Stingray-inspired to begin with, they always struck me as Stingray-meets-Modulus.

Modulus has gone bankrupt in 2013. But is now back under a new owner. And they are turning out only 2/4 basses a month. The new instruments do look verry nice! Check it out on facebook.

EBMM don't do signature basses. Plus one to MSilver's comment. Interesting how the EBMM's sig models are really sig models as opposed to the Corona company's (and that Nashville company as well) sig models which are just variations of production models.

Not so fast. Big Poppa himself recently hinted in this very forum at a forthcoming "Majesty Bass" that would, I assume, be a de facto John Myung signature model.

Interesting, not based on Bongo. Anyway, we will wait and see. I don't mind signature bass guitars, speaking of someone who really deserves one is Tony Levin but he's a humble chap and I assume he plays any Music Man given to him.

Flea already has a signature bridge..why give him a whole bass? The nerve!!
I love my 94 'Ray with the Flea bridge. Bought it brand new having no idea what a classic that bass would turn out to be!

The "Flea bridge" is a name WE made up, not the company. It's just a handy way to refer to a particular bridge and doesn't have "Flea" stamped on it or anything, thankfully.
I posed the "signature bass" question to Tony Levin once - he was surrounded by lots of signature artists, come to think of it, JP and Luke and Steve Morse and so on. (And Sterling!) He basically said he didn't require one as his basses were for the most part stock basses; he could walk into any shop in the US or Denmark or wherever, grab a Stingray 5 off the rack and be perfectly happy. What would set a Tony Levin signature SR5 apart from other SR5s? Nothing.
And if any bassist deserves (whatever that means) a sig model, it would have to be Tony. But he doesn't want one.
I'd say the same would be true of the artists who worked with the company during the development of the Bongo, especially Cliff Hugo and/or Dave LaRue. If EBMM ever comes out with a signature model bass (other than the Sterling, of course), it will be an interesting turn of events.

Pino palladino is another player who would be worthy of one but hes gone to playing precisions alot now. Would love to see a version of his old fretless though, basically a SR4 classic in sunburst and a fretless neck.

I have a question and a couple recollections regarding the subjects in this thread.
Back in 1981-82 I was working at guitar shop in Detroit and was handed a brand new bass by the Music Man rep. It was a Cutlass bass, essentially a 3 bolt, string through Sting Ray Bass with a Modulas graphite neck. I played it for about six hours while the boss was at the Annex (bar around the corner) with said rep. When they returned the rep had to pry it from my hands... I've been searching for one for many years and know of only one and it ain't available.
The Modulas Flea sig was introduced to me in 1997, again by the local Modulas rep (by this time I had moved to Los Angeles) and I could have picked that one up at artist price but didn't have the money. It was extremely close to the original Cutlass i had played 15+ years earlier, the neck was a tad bit slimmer, or seemed so.
And didn't EBMM put out a "Sledge" Sting Ray and Sabre a few years ago, featuring Tony Levin in the ads? Silver/Grey finishes being the only apparent signature feature, but still implying that they were Tony's bass(s).
Just the $.02 of a longtime (35+ years) Sting Ray Bass owner and lover who is old enough to.... HEY GET OFF MY LAWN YOU DAMN KIDS!!
