Is there anybody that has kept an accurate record of Flea's musicman basses? One thing I noted is that he prefers rosewood fingerboards than maple. How many and which models does he own. I have noted that he has for sure:

1 '76 Stingray covered in stickers(pretty much like the Modulus punkbass he's using)
1 Black StingRay5
1 Bordeaux EB StingRay black pickguard
1 more Bordeaux EB StingRay but without(!!) fret dots. Is there anybody who might tell us more on this(the missing fret dots)?
1 Black StingRay 3EQ Black pickguard
etc......

Do you know where I can find a pic of the "covered in stickers Stingray" ??
I only "saw" it in a videoclip of a RHCP song.

Well, I've seen quite a few photos with this bass but unfortunately they're not in my possesion. Try to find photos from their first album. Man,this bass is just stickers and strings!!

i think the musicman that's covered with stickers is actually a cutlass, the one with the graphite neck. i can recall watching a couple of VERY old chili pepper videos in which he plays it, and it looked like the neck was black all over, just like the graphite. i could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure the one without fret dots is a fretless bass.

He used a white stingray with a rosewood board for some of the BSSM tour.

So this Flea person, he's a bassist? And his name is "Flea".

Hmmm.

Seriously, I'd someday like to buy one bass magazine that doesn't have a single mention of him in it.

I'm probably dreaming, but you gotta have dreams.

:)

I came across a RHCP fan site BBS pretty much by accident...

Somebody here was asking about Flea's stingrays a couple of weeks ago without much luck, so I asked there and, there you go...

(not strictly a fan myself)

Sorry Bove, but he IS ranked as one of the best in the world. Not in your eyes / ears maybe, but there you go.

Aston Familyman Barrett (Bob & The Wailers) was (along with Sting) my original inspiration for playing bass. Flea's one of the reasons I still do. I looked for my EBMMSR4 (Rosewood/Black/Black PG) because of Flea, then bought it cos it sounded better than any bass I'd heard. I LOVE that bass.....

Jack's old; don't mind him. Though I did notice him on TB the other day. Jeez, next thing you know, he'll be playing a Warwick.

And wearing spandex? No, sorry, if you see me playing a Warwick, please, I beg of you, KILL ME because aliens have taken over my body and I'm no longer really me.
