I was just checking out the videos at the new and very cool http://www.bassplayer.tv/ website.Check out the sweet Musicman Flea is playing in his videos. Can't help but notice how his Stingray is looking so sleek, svelte and sexy now. ;) :D

That's sort of weird, cause in the Bass Player Magazine, he goes off on how he's returning to vintage F*nders and his gear is listed as such, and of course he picks up a Stingray for the video.

Need we say more?

Actually the tour just started in Europe and he already dumped the Fenders and switched again to his touring Modulus guitars. He states this in the new Bass Guitar where he's sharing the cover with Bootsy. But I haven't purchased it yet so I don't know why he switched. I'm guessing for the original reason of him beating up his road basses. He keeps the basses he REALLY cares for off the stage. lol There's actually a lively debate between the bassists in the musician section of the Pepper fan forum about his basses. There has been a vote on what basses people prefer to hear him play and us Musicman fans have definitely made ourselves heard. The Fenders are actually a lot of people's least favorite because they get lost in the mix and you can't even hear him live.

And he picked up a STERLING not a Stingray for the vids which makes it sweeter. :p

Now if we can get his hands on a Bongo...I'd be VERY interested to hear that with the hot electronics the Bongo has!!

It is a cool site that Bass Player just put up, I hope they keep it updated while still archiving old content.

so what is that red sticker on his white jazz a sticker of?

It's a sticker of D. Boon, the late guitarist of the Minutemen and a close friend of Mike Watt. The caption on the sticker reads: punk is whatever we made it to be.

Since this was bumped I should add that I did pick up that issue of Bass Guitar mag with him and Bootsy on the cover and Flea states the Fender has been replaced by the Modulus basses again. Says that the Jazz just wasnt cutting through the mix. I have to agree. I could not hear him at all during the live performances I have seen with Flea and that Jazz.

How a bass sounds by itself is one thing, how it sounds in the mix is quite another. This is why I love Musicmans. They always cut through.

Not Bass Player. It was Guitar World's Bass Guitar which is a little harder to find. Just look for Flea and Bootsy. The cover colors are orange. You can see it at the top of this page: http://www.guitarworld.com/toc/bass.html
I picked it up at a Borders bookstore. Don't know if you have those?

Flea was also on Bass Player with Charlie Haden but that was about two issues ago, the June issue.

that was quite cool, although i thought he used a stingray to record blood, sugar, sex, magik and that bass he showed didnt look like a stingray at all.

and i wish i had a home recording studio like that. that would make me very happy :)
