I got an MIM F*r on eBay that ended up being a dawg. Since it was depressing me, I took it to my local luther/magician. We hot rodded it with new innards and a flip paint job -- Absolute Purple. That is like Mystic Dream, purple to green. I'm not sure it's exactly the same color, there were about three different tints to choose from in on the purple/green chart I looked at. Of course I chose the deepest and most extreme one.

The bass in its heavily modified form is fun to play, gorgeous to look at, and sounds like a little (32" scale) wolverine. It's no Bongo, but it's fun. I don't think the paint is all that thick, and the tone is WAY better now. Of course, that's most likely due to the new electronics. There are some great colors out there in flip paint and other extreme automotive paints.

My guy didn't complain that the paint was any sort of problem for him, and he did a flawless job, but everything he does is one-off custom so it might be different in a production situation.

Anyway, my .02. Flip paint sure is a lot of fun.

Man, these colours are ugly!
Do you want your guitars/basses look like some f***ing rollercoaster?
Especially these pink/gold- or green/gold-finishes won't fit any high end guitar.
Mystic dream looks quite cool, but these...
...maybe in combination with some pimped built-in flat screen and a play station, of course!
