Flipping D Sonic in JP6- sounds like Steve's Special?

I think I read once that flipping the D Sonic so that the bar is facing the bridge makes it sound more like a Steve's Special. Is there any truth to this? The reason I'm asking is because I played a used JP6 Mystic Dream in Sam Ash today with the old bridge pickup, and I really loved the sound of it, so I might want to experiment by flipping the D Sonic. I also played an Olive Gold JP6 at Guitar Center, beautiful color.

It's wierd, I don't know why petrucci changed to the D-sonic. I had a jp6 with the steve's special and it was such a good pickup. I guess petrucci's more into the drop tuning stuff these days. If I were you and you play in regular tuning, I would fork out for the steves special and get it replaced. I've really not been enjoying the latest tones from DT's last couple of albums as much as in the past.

i have the D-sonic flipped at the moment sounds awesome lots of bit its really supposed to be that way anyway i think? JP likes it the other way but that doesnt mean you cant !!
i have it in a silo and it sounds wicked dude

it was wired up to be like Marco sfoglis setup with cruisers in the neck and middle But the pole at the back so i just left it sounds brite to me

Is the Sub receiving the replaced pickup?

I have not long purchased a D Sonic for mine, just awaiting a new pickguard right now.

No, the Sub's pups were replaced with Seymour Duncans before I bought it, and I really like them for Drop D tuning, which is what I'm using it for. It has an Adam Jones vibe going on, which I really like. I don't know what I'll do with the D Sonic, I'll probably put it in my old Mexican Strat, which sounds like crap. Then I can use that for Eb tuning. Or if someone wants to trade the old bridge pickup or a Steve's Special, I'll gladly do that.

I found that with the D-Sonic in its factory position, screwing down the 6 polepieces as far as they would go really improved the sound, it took out the graininess and made it sound more lively and clear. I've considered reversing the PU, but I love the middle position sound so much that I don't want to mess it up.

THREAD RESURRECTION!

I'll be getting my JP6 soon (Thanks to Pete Dubaldo!) and this is something I was wondering about. The D-Sonic 7 in my BFRs sounds AWESOME with the solid bar toward the bridge. Great attack...really choppy, but it'll smooth out nicely by rolling back off the volume and tone a little bit.

I haven't *personally* heard a JP6 in person other than at a Dream Theater show, so I'll test this out when mine comes in. I have a couple original tunes that need recorded, so I might throw something together and post it up on here with the different pickup configs.
