Flipping the D sonic

How hard is this to do in the JP6?

I'm not very handy. Does someone have very specific instructions for dummies on how to do this?

simply flipping the pup is question of removing the strings and unscrewing the pup, flipping it, screwing it back on.

if your not too sure, maybe you should as a tech.



i don't really think you're going to enjoy it much flipped, to be honest.

Just physically flipping the pickup will mess up the center parallel setting. You will actually have to re-solder the pickup leads to get it right.

I'm sure someone has done this. I'll take a look at my JP6 when I get home and update then.

but if he changes the coil choice, it won't be noise cancelling anymore, right? then he will have 2 inner coils again but of the same polarity?

When the D-Sonic first came out everyone was swapping them into their JPs, and the off the shelf version is wired differently than the EB version (EB version was re-engineered to orient the bucker the way JP wants it). To get the shelf version D-Sonic in the JP configuration you needed to install as outlined below.

If your D-sonic is original to the guitar, you will want to reverse it yet again (because it was already re-engineered), so follow the same steps. (Or just buy an off the shelf version and drop it in with no other steps).

The red wire from the pickup is soldered to the white solder pad on the PC board.

The black pickup wire is soldered to green on the PC.

The green pickup wire is soldered to black on the PC.

The white pickup wire is soldered to red on the PC.



In addition, the installation direction of the neck pickup will have to be reversed if you want both pickups’ inner coils to remain on in the middle position. We don’t feel this is absolutely necessary, because the sonic difference isn’t very large. The difference is more obvious with the bridge pickup, but less so with the neck pickup because it’s closer to the middle of the strings, where the tone change isn’t as dramatic.
