I know forum member Tiffles is currently living in Sydney, but I'm not sure if she still has family in Toowoomba. Yesterday's disaster (8 dead, 72 missing) is on top of the already massive flooding in the state of Queensland that has inundated an area the size of France and Germany combined since Christmas

Death toll rises to eight, 70 missing as flash floods strike Queensland | The Australian

it's really crazy here at the moment our local dam is at 140% at least 8 have died with 72 people missing. I shouldn't be flying out to NAMM it's looking to be that bad.

The Maritimes and Gaspé (Québec) have had some serious flooding this year as well. Some southern states have been getting snow storms and of course, Europe has seen its fair share of snow where they normally don't. Mother nature really seems to be wreaking havoc this year, not to mention the earthquakes in Haiti at this time last year.

I hope everyone is okay down there.

Hey guys thanks for the well wishes and prayers... i was there only under 2 weeks ago and it was raining then...we were lucky to be able to get back to the airport when it stopped for 2 days.

dad recorded 5.5 inches in about an hour in our backyard. family are safe but separated because of road closures etc. It's really sad, Toowoomba is a beautiful city, it sucks that I can't be there with everyone to clean up... the debris is just astounding. lots of local businesses damaged.... farms around toowoomba are decimated. Just down the range in withcott and gatton (where my brother, sister in law and niece live) people have drowned when their whole house was washed away.
We've been in drought for over a decade.

40 daze and 40 nitez

HowD Funseekerz,
from time to time, we have some spring runoff flooding here on the wet coast, but nothing like what I see in the news about the land down under theze daze ... many years ago the store I managed was flooded when a workman knocked the end off a sprinkler pipe, so, I have a wee bit of experience with flood cleanup and restoration, but nothing like what I see on the news which is of Biblical proportions ...

my heartfelt prayers go for all the victims of the presentdisaster in Aussieland

Good to hear, Tiff, and thanks for the report. That looks really bad. Sending good vibes and best wishes from Switzerland!

Just saw this on the news last night, and hearing the name "Toowoomba" made me think of this place and Tiff. I always thought it was a pretty "interesting" place name so for some reason it has lodged itself in my long term memory. Good to hear the family is all OK, it looks devastating.

And "hi" to all the (very) old school-ers (and obviously the new school-ers as well). :D

I may have to cancel my trip if this gets any worse will make the decision in the morning Brisbane Evacuations: Brisbane Floods Cause Evacuations

Colin, thinking of you and also anyone else in the flood affected areas of QLD. It's really hard to comprehend such devastating flooding in Australia. On Sunday night I donated to the Flood Appeal, but after the last 24 hrs I know it won't be the last time I open my wallet to help. Such a rare and unexpected natural disaster like this certainly helps me put other minor life problems into perspective. Keep safe up there.
Cheers

To anyone wanting to assist, below is the link to Queensland government website to donate. There are even details for international donations.

My younger brother is studying at a university up the coast north of Brisbane. He himself is in the States now during their summer (hm....) break but many of his friends has family and friends that have been heavily affected by the floodings. I like water but not THAT much water. Wicked things happening around the planet lately. No good.
