Ok, so Floyd rose is an option for Y2D or Standard Morse.

I am kind of new to elec world and was wondering what the advantages are of having a Floyd? I notice many people at first have problems/trouble with Floyd, yet I don't see why people would bother if there is no good trade offs.

also, is floyd different than a regular Tremolo???

thanks, David

I'm sure most people will disagree with me, but I think a floyd adds to the tone.

Get a guitar with a floyd; once you learn to deal with it, everything else you can do with your eyes closed.

well the floyd is a pain in the ass to change the strings especially if you need to chang ethem on the fly like during a gig or right before, also you lock the string in place so you cant change tunings on the fly either whick I do with my band. floating floyds are aweful for me, but a floyd that sits on the body like an axis is a little better but I still prefer the MMtrem, best around -

When I was younger and had more time I always went the Floyd route. Now I'm a bit older and prefer no trem at all. I like the ring you get with no Floyd. But I still have Floyd's on some of my guitars and still use them. Either way you can't go wrong.

I have an Ibanez with a Floyd, and like others have said, it's a pain to change strings, and tune up. Ever since I got a guitar with a "hard tail", I haven't touched the Ibanez since. One of the few times I ever played out, I broke a string on the first chord I hit. Good thing there was another guitar player to finish the song, 'cause once you break a string with a floating bridge, the other 5 are way out of tune.

Yeah, but that's only if it is floating. Aren't the Morse models drop-only (just like the Axis)?

The same with me.
When I was a young boy with long hairs, I bought an ESP with a Floyd. I was playing mainky Hard Rock, so it was OK.
But when I started to play other stuffs (country, jazz, ...), well I changed my mind (and I bought a MM Steve Morse Hardtail).
With a full floating Floyd, when you bend a string, you are out of tune. The maintenance is harder ... A lot of problem.
Ok I admit : to do dive bombs it is funny but quickly, you will tire of that ...

If you need just to have a subtle vibrato, the vibrato you can create with your fingers is more musical .
My point of view ... you are free to disagree !

Yeah, dive bombs get old. Not that I was very good, but I used to use the bar for little expressive things, like a little dip here and there. I'd use it for vibrato also, since it was easier than finger vibrato, and it's useful for using vibrato on open string chords. It's tough to shake that open "G".

Have you try the "behind the nut" vibrato for open strings ? John5 is a specialist of this technic.
I use also the "bend the neck" option , but ok this technic is a bit primitive...
The problem with a Floyd is that it is useful 1% of the time and a problem 99% of the rest ... (How many dive bombs are you doing during a set ?)
But again, it depends on the style of music you play.
The best option is to have several guitars and a guitar tech that changes your guitar between each song (like JP or SM):) :)

Anyone have both Morse model guitars (one with Floyd and one without) and care to comment on the tonal differences. I've heard a little bit of a harder edge with the Floyd, but the hard tail had better overtones and sustain.

if you check the ernie ball's Y2D site www.ernieball.com/smy2d and watch the vid with Steve testing new axe you will have comparison. In the end of the clip he's playing Floyd and non Floyd model. Floyd model is much brighter sounding, check it out

The JP6 bridge is recessed so you can do pullups and dive bombs. Like a Floyd but non-locking so like a vintage bridge in other ways.
