Floyd Rose Original vs Licensed?

Are you serious, so you don't cut the balls off...almost like a speed loader...can you get a pic up of this?

I don't cut the balls off mine either. I just run them through the tuners on the headstock first and leave the balls up there. It works like a charm and saves a step.

I do that as well. However I think the other poster mean he didn't use the locks at the bridge.

I have a licensed floyd on my esp f200, the only thing i didn't like was the clamps on the bridge so i ran the strings through the screw holes and eliminated them. it stays in tune for weeks, i'm impressed with it.

I don't know if I'd do that... Slippage sounds like a given, or the string getting caught up down there somehow from time to time.

I saw that too. However, the response hit me as being more impressed with the possibility of not having to cut the balls off in the first place.

That's the shortcomings of these posts. Sometimes original intent is difficult to figure out.

There is only one OFR (Original Floyd Rose).

However, Licensced Floyd Trems fall into a very large and general category.

Years ago, Floyd Rose sold the patents to their trem. Since then, many manufacturers have created floyd-like trems. They all vary, but they are required to put "Licensed under Floyd Rose Patents" on the trem somewhere.

Some manufactures have created good ones (Ibanez Edge, Lo-Pro, etc.) and some have created really defunct ones (i.e Jackson, and just about any other Korean guitar with a licensed trem on them.)

Just because it says Licensed on it, doesn't mean it's bad. An OFR is the real deal, and there are some other manufacturers who make decent ones. But there is no one "Licensed", there are many.
