Floyd Rose players: why?

I've bought one guitar with a Floyd. It's just not for me. I feel the same way as Poppa does about the coloration of the tone.

Yes, I appreciated the fact that my Ib@n3z would stay in tune in spite of a bit of whammy abuse here and there. No, I didn't find it to be an incredible hassle if I kept the same tuning, but I prefer something simpler. Keep the wrench out of my hands, please. So, I prefer the EBMM vintage trem and the JP.

I was a Floyd-a-holic before I bought my JP6. I had played Floyd's exclusively for probably 15-18 years. Now, when I pick up my Floyd-equipped Y2D I do find myself longing for the Petrucci bridge. No Colin, that doesn't mean I want to sell the Y2D! It's just testimony as to how great the Petrucci bridge is. I had forgotten what it was like to tune at the headstock!

Sounds identical to me. I had various Jackson-type pointy headstock strat type guitars for years, all Floyd or Floyd licensed equipped.

Bought my first JP and now find all the clamps and sticky out bits a real pain.

I too bought a Floyd equipped Y2D and now find it's my least played Ball because I can't be arsed with the Floyd.

JP trem is the dogs!

The Floyd takes too long for me...

The JP trem has amazing stability, it takes literally 10 minutes to put on new strings and just feels perfect!

So far, I do Love the JP Trem! I was always annoyed with the wrenches and such of the floyd, I just had a positive experience with my last one... (maybe cause I never had to change the strings! LOL).

All in all, the JP is far superior than my old ibby and the trem feels very solid.

i like the way FR bridge feels under my right hand when i palm mute. I have had no tuning problems whatsoever.. that includes after dive-bomb sessions. Its a great system.

My previous non_EBMM guitar was an Ibanez with a knock-off Floyd Trem. The thing drove me absolutely crazy when changing strings. Maybe I am clueless, but it would take hours for the thing to settle down and get in tune. Plus, resting my hand on it was out of the question. I am much happier with the vintage trem.

(Actually, I hardly ever use the whammy bar, so I should just probably go with Hard Tail from here on out.)

I love the Floyd on my Axis. I actually like what it does for the tone and I don't find the tuning stability to be any better or worse than the JP trem. I wish the Axis came with a JP trem just because I am lazy.

As far as the JP staying in tune as well as a Floyd, well, here is a video I posted a while ago showing how well it does stay in tune (sorry to those of you who have seen this before):

Had a floyd on my Ibanez Prestige... for what it's worth, I had a set of strings on it for almost a year (not my main guitar) and Every time I picked it up, it was completely in tune... Actually quite impressive.

I've always been impressed with the Edge bridges from Ibanez. I've owned a guitar with an Edge III and an Edge Pro and they've both been very stable. But now I've got a JP, the floating bridges on these guitars are so nice I don't want another Floyd equipped guitar.

Because there isn't one. That trem sill amazes me. I wish it were on all the EBMM guitars

+1000 I'd love to see a JP floating style bridge on other models, too.

Aside from my one Axis that needed a new trem and new posts, I haven't had any trouble with tuning stability on my Axis.

I think some people get the Floyd out of familiarity. It was the one major thing out of the 80's that "changed the guitar". I also think that people pick Floyds to emulate their heroes. If your fave guitar player used one, then you'd want to.

That being said. Vintage trems with the right setup (graphite or compensated nut and locking tuners) are just as stable as Floyds. EBMM has it down pat.

Yeah, I have a floyd rose, it can be a pain, between string changes, and sometimes heavy whammy work can be a pain, if it loses its tune. I played a Petrucci, did normal playing on it, stayed in tune greatly. Used the bridge a lot, stayed in tune fine. I dont think I will find a better guitar.

Totally. But I doubt I'll ever choose another Floyd again.

I love the stability of the Floyd, but it's a real pain in the ass that you can't tune down when you want. I had a d tuna on my Axis for awhile, but I didn't have very good luck with it staying in tune very well so I finally took it off. I'm really looking forward to getting my JP. It should be in soon and I love the JP trem. I also love the full float which my Axis obviously doesn't have.

I'm completely satisfied w/ the JP trem. It feels like the image I've always had of how a trem should be. Tension is perfect, the bar ergonomics everything just rocks.
