you guy's are so funny when it comes to this subject, last time it came up I suggested that if you had a Floyd you also needed a poodle perm and spandex. I received death threats over that :D. I have a number of guitars with a Floyd but I just like to see the reaction I get when I throw it out there...

People's tastes also evolve. In 1991, I really wanted a Floyd. The Iban3z Lo-Pro did me just fine. By 1992, my tastes changed making the Floyd was just too much hassle, and I wanted to just have a non-floating trem. Either that or one of those trems that you could lock up so it wouldn't move when you didn't want it to move and then unlock when you wanted it to move. Then, i wanted no trem at all, because my feeling was that I'd get better tone. I also now attribute many tonal qualities that I don't like to the presence of a Floyd. Or...more precisely, I attribute the absence of tonal qualities that I do like to the presence of a Floyd on my Iban3z. Whether that's true or not, I don't know for sure.

Now, I like the MM vintage style and the JP style if I'm going to have a trem. More likely than not, though, I'm getting a hardtail ASS when I finally get around to getting one of those guitars. So, my taste has run the gamut from double-locking trem to no trem and various stops in between.

I'm all for the whole "different strokes for different folks" thing, though. If people want a Floyd, hey...by all means, get one if it's an option, retrofit your guitar, whatever. After all, it's your guitar. Personally, I won't be spending my money on one of those things.

Why can't we all just get along?? :)

I agree with the play what you like comment. Not everyone wants or needs a Floyd, and likewise with a vintage trem. I've got a Floyd Axis, and a non-Floyd Axis, and I like them both equally. I can't actually tell any difference in tone between the two. They're similar in construction, minus the Floyd and locking nut versus the string thru hardtail and standard nut. It still sounds like me playing on an Axis.

One of these days I might break down and get a MM with a vintage/non-locking trem, but I don't really need one now. I'd like to at least try one first and see if it fits my playing style. I had thought that they were bears to setup if you wanted to do the whole insane whammy bar antics (which is kinda what I'm getting into).

Hey, we don't all need several guitars but lord knows we keep buying them ... :D

Life's too short ... everybody should get exactly what they like.
