I fly to England back and forth for uni every term. I always take my guitar on as hand luggage; I could never trust the people down below with this guitar. The best way (or a thing that has worked every time for me) is to put the guitar in a non-hard case and put the case on your back upside down; therefore making it look like a normal rucksack, your legs hide the fretboard sticking downwards, you just need to think about how you stand to prevent them knowing the truth of the guitar actually being there.

(Sorry, off topic post...)

I just read Steve Morse's "A tribute to Ernie Ball, 12th September 2004". I'd seen Steve's Notes from the Road page before, but somehow (and amazingly! I can't figure out how) I'd never seen this tribute before.

The link is http://www.stevemorse.com/smsays/september12_2004.html.

I find that it cannot be a coincidence that both Steve Lukather and Steve Morse have had such high praise for Ernie Ball & BP. I am happy that the only guitars I have ever purchased have been EBMM. This is the kind of company that I am glad to see my money go to.

I only wish I had more money to find its way to EBMM. I think I may be in love (or at least in lust) with a 20th Silo, but my wife would sooooooo kill me.

I always check guitars. I cant be doing with the agro at check in! I travel with them in hard cases and they are insured by my musical insurance company. If they get lost or destroyed they will be replaced by insurance money. Luckily EBMM guitars are so consistant I dont have to worry about replacing them!

Me too. The only problem I have ever run into is the guitar being late (not showing up on the luggage belt). This included my new AL which I mentioned in another thread! I even checked in a guitar in a gig bag, which wasn't my first choice, but it too came through no prob. It wasn't an EBMM BTW!!

I remember the last time I flew with a guitar...

And that was the last time I ever saw that guitar.

Well, kind of... it's a pretty crazy story...

SOOOO... I'm flying to VA from Florida with a Washburn Chicago Series, tweed case, blah blah blah. Spent all summer saving up for it so I could by it from my brother. I get to the airport and they're like. "You need to check your guitar". I was like "I'm not checking my guitar". The lady says "You have to". So I finally gave in.

I land in VA, and I stand at the baggage claim for about three hours. No guitar. I call them every hour on the hour for the next three days. No guitar.

Well, about 10 years later (at least), I'm out at dinner with my girlfriend, and there is a music shop in the same area as the restaurant. I'm like "Let's roll in here and check it out".

So we do, and lo and behold, there is my Washburn hanging right there on the used shelf for $400.

I said "Do you mind if I play that for a second?". The guy hands it to me. I immediately roll it over to see if it has a little tick in the back of the neck from where I hit it up against the bedpost 10 years prior. A memory I will never forget. And neither did my brother (at the time). Yup, it was still theres. It's the one. By the way, it was a very distinguishable color. AND, I have a video of me playing it.

So I strum on it for a while, and the guys like "So, you wanna buy it?". I said "I did, about 10 years ago".

I explained the whole story to them, and they were really cool about it. They were even willing to go through the whole process. But I was like, you know, I think some kid should come in here one day and find this guitar, and start a little something of their own...
