Getting a new bass and that means

I'll be looking for another gig bag soon. I may consider the RB as well.

Their promo for it has them throwing a guitar in it off a 2 story building with no damage, twice!

That's actually a pretty accurate simulation of the treatment it will get at the hands of the airport baggage handlers. They interpret a "fragile" sticker as a physical challenge.

Wow...

Any Suggestions not already on the table?

I'm guessing ata rated flight case.

Erin

A couple of us have mentioned the SKB Bass Safe as an alternative to an ATA flight case, as it will fit all shapes and sizes of basses (other than Thunderbirds and EB-2 type shapes). It's not expensive, and is easy to carry (or roll/pull if you prefer). The latches are a little flimsy, but a couple of the TSA padlocks (the ones that can be opened with a master key for inspection) fixes that.

yeah... its made for one gig bag though... I'll do some research and see...

Maybe i don't need to travel with 2 basses. I would just hate to be without a backup.

My guess is that if it were wide enough for a double bag, people would complain that their single bag (which is what it is designed for) would move around too much inside of it.

There's not enough room in it for two basses. I put extra things in there just to be sure. I also like to have my own pillow with me. :D

I use my 25+ yr old gig bag. It's cordura and there's no name. Many have said that it's an early Levy's but I don't know. It's lasted a long time. :)

I would think that Reunion Blues Continental would fit and then you'd really be protected.

Hey Guys,
Brett Paley from Reunion Blues here. Sorry to crash the party so late, thanks for all the kind words! I'm the guy who did the road test blog about checking the semi-hollow guitar in an RB Continental case as baggage and it's all 100% true. I just wanted to jump in and make a couple of other quick points/clarification. First to Freddels the RB Continental Bass case is actually about 9lbs. I'm not sure where that 3 lbs. figure came from but I don't want anyone caught off guard when they actually get their case. Second to Syciprider in regards to our leather gig bags you state "leather gig bags are nothing more than glorified sacks". In regards to that GP (Guitar Player mag) reviewed our style 217 Sonoma guitar leather gig bag and found in addition to the unparalleled beauty of the bag that "you would need an anvil style flight case to provide better protection" and that's because of the high quality leather and proprietary foam padding technology that we use. Don't let a myth about lack of protection stop you from buying a leather gig bag. We've had stories of guitars falling down flights of stairs, off of moving vehicles and even one that was actually run over and survived in it's RB gig bag. I'm getting a bit long-winded here so I'll just finish up by copying and pasting a quote from an email we received over the weeknd about our RB Continental bass case.

Greetings,

My name is Derrick Davis and I am the bassist for the Original "P" (featuring original founding members of Parliament Funkadelic)

I just wanted to drop you all a line at Reunion Blues and say "thank you" for making, what I consider, the best gig bag made.......ever!! I just recently purchased an RB Continental bass bag/case. And of all the years that I have been playing bass guitar, I have never witnessed a bag of this magnitude. It's the best. And I think I have just purchased my last gig bag. It don't get no better than the RB Continental...

Once again, god bless!! and thank you!! Keep up the good work!!

Derrick Davis - bassist / production
Original "P" / Robin Stone / Dionne Farris

Again, my apologies for the overly lengthy post. Thanks again for the kind words and let me know if you have any questions.
Brett

9 lbs!!!! Yikes!!!! That's a deal killer!! :D

I got the 3 lbs from someone on another forum that recently purchased one. It does seem like a very nice gig bag and there just might be one in my future. I'm assuming that the sides are reinforced and are hard or at least very firm to provide that kind of protection (from baggage handlers).

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

No problem guys, my pleasure! Thanks for the warm welcome. Freddels I weighed one yesterday just to confirm and it was exactly 8.5 lbs. Just curious how much does your 25 year old cordura bag weigh? I know an average wood bass case weighs about 15-16 lbs. The RB Continental is about half that and provides much better protection than any wood or plastic case. Anyway everyone will have their own ideas about this but we feel the weight is pretty reasonable. Thanks again and Rock On everyone!

(Freddels, just so you don't think I'm overly serious I didn't notice the smilie until after I posted so I guess you were joking to a certain extent? Sometimes it's hard to tell on the internet but just wanted to get accurate info out there anyway!)
