TIme is the ultimate judge of intent. I had to take the shots of just being here as a commercial front. That always made me laugh because if that was my motivation we would still have some miserable turds here. ...It would be "Thank you sir, Ill have another" At the risk of alienation I knew that we couldnt let this place be run by bad guys and gals.

Now after over six thousand posts seven days a week the detractors will reluctantly concede that I really care about what we do. If this is just to sell instruments I must be one determined guy. I had to overcome being the bosses son for 20 years too. Still I will read an article about Music Man and read about how my Dad turned it around and created all of these instruments.

It comes with the territory.

I didnt post my response compaining about Talk Bass or threatening to leave. I am very happy here and enjoy the interaction and comraderie. The bumps Jack mentioned were being proactive and a determined effort not to let this place go the way of Taylor's and PRs's forum.

Just my two possibly very misinformed newbie cents.

Gotta hand it to BP. He seems very dedicated to his company and its products and this forum puts him smack right in the middle of almost equally dedicated and passionate people with various backgrounds and motives - like the thread title says, people tend to take their basses (too) seriously and on an open forum you can basically shoot your mouth off about whatever. But on the other hand I would imagine it allows him a pretty unique view to the field so to say.

Mr. Ball's level of participation - and that of the whole EBMM crew - here is in a word awesome. Hats off.

Jack, yeah we seem to have a few bumps here and there (RicPlayer anyone?) but really it makes the forum more alive. You and the other mods also do a great job of allowing intelligent dissent to propagate as long as it remains civil.

It would be pretty boring if all we did was write odes about Music Man.

God forbid that this forum would help promote EBMM and sell thier products. That is, after all, one of the main goals of a business , isn't it?

However, there is an obvious personal pride and involvment on behalf of BP, Beth, Jack, etc. That is part of what makes this forum, this company, and it's products so special.

What other forum has had such an imapct on it's product development? I have never heard of a Dargie's Delight equivalent with any other manufacturer. (Not to say that it hasn't happened...I'm not positive.) What other set of forumites came to the finacial aid of another memeber to help them keep thier basses/guitars to buy a house?? I believe that all of us here take pride in these facts, and this pride allows us to self-police (sometimes with assistance!) and not push our entitlement boundaries.

I hope that the CEO, cust svc reps, and moderators remain as close to this forum as in the past. It is a great place to visit everyday!

Bumps can make for an interesting ride--even though your ass might hurt afterward.

I've visited a lot of forums, but there are only a few where I've stayed. The active forum members make all of the difference to me. This is the only brand-specific forum where I regularly participate, & those who know me know that I've got a lot of brands hanging around my house. I've got 3 PRS basses & 2 PRS guitars, but I suspect that the demographic of PRS-ophiles might be a bit different from the demographic of Musicman-ophiles.

Still, with its open architecture, and as some of you have no doubt lately seen, the naysayers feel the need and have the opportunity to swoop down on the party and throw turds.

"I can't stand it that you're so happy with your bass! I prefer a different bass so stop having so much fun!"

You're absolutely right about that one Jack. It doesn't matter to me what others find as their favorites, and I don't go around telling them their choice is garbage.

But reading that thread, I do have to point out, Syciprider you were the instigater there...you threw the first turd. I'm not here defending anything, I just made an observation....

forums like these need to be on a short leach, but still allow enough slack to let it be alive. i bow to the mods for doin a good job in that matter :)
also the dedication from the boss and the rest of the company is awesome! you can feel the love for the job, the instruments, the music and the forum family. i must say i like it alot.. in this corporate world where money is everything (just look at the amounts of factories moving production to the far east) you cannot pay enough money for the reputation that rises from behaviour like this...

just my humble findings after hanging here for a month or so ;)
the cynical parts comes from feeling how the music instrument business has changed over the last 2 years. welp.. scandinavia must close in on the way the rest of the world does business.. more instruments sold, lower margins..

for me this opportunity to learn more sure has opened my eyes. i know ill persuade the boss to stock more mm instruments.. just because i can tell that story which makes it easy to sell the instruments :D
must be a win-win situation, eh? :)

This is a great place with a sense of "Family" and I have had the pleasure of meeting quite a few of you knuckleheads. Big Poppa is very passionate about music, his company and his customers. This forum is another tool for us and for him to use to build the family and customer base. The Mods here do a great job of keeping things in order even though we tend to police ourselves for the most part.
Do I talke my bass serious? Sure, I am the only bongo player in my area and I represent EBMM everytime I go on stage. I love the look on other bass players faces when they hear the bongo and all it's glory. However, I don't knock what brand they are using. Not cool....so, i guess I ain't that serious! LOL....

Anywho....sit back and relax...don't take everything so seriously....life it too short!

I was going to comment on the immensely popular wintertime sport of frozen cowpie throwing.

Then I had an epiphany.

You guys are talking about virtual turd throwing!

Ken...

From what I read, it was an open question. I actually went to TB to find it. Seems some people are likely to defend their Fe$$ers. On this forum..... Guess what? Only EBMM. That's the way it should be. None of us are fronting the bill to communicate. Untill there is a monthly/yearly charge for us to post, nothing can be said. I've found this place to be one of the best and am not shy about letting my son peruse it. Matter of fact... I'll be getting him an EBMM guitar soon.

Edit to add... Koogie's response was damn near perfect.

Yeah, this is a good place to be. Every so often a bad day, a bad mood, or whatever sends us off on some crusade and some dubious posts may appear. The mods then come in to tidy up and life returns to normal. The dubious posters (myself included) go back to lick our wounds and return again to take part in what is one of the best forums on the net. Personally, I've never found the need to be critical of other basses. I have other basses apart from EBMM. However, this forum is a good place not just to discuss EBMM but for a whole load of other stuff. Long may it reign and never change.

You know that all of the Bass Forums are really good when you compare it to public comments on youtube. I wonder if inane comments will every get passe? Maybe when I win a bikini contest!

Us Bongo players are the ones who are setting the stage for the future Bongo players.....when we take our Bongo's out for gigs and people hear that specific tone (like that Stingray tone) and we then talk about our basses to those that approach us with questions, it just a matter of time and many will purchase Bongo's or at least have the curiosity stirred.

Big Poppa created and advertised it but we are the ones who will keep his dream alive by the music we play and create. So 30 40 or 50 years from now they will be talking about us and how we believed in what BP did and carried on his creation and his dream.........

I have to give credit to BP and crew and the moderators of this forum. It is really great. This is actually the first internet-forum I ever joined when I signed up a year ago. (I tried the Gibson-forum but they wouldn't take me!;) ). At first I wondered why it wasn't more "free for all". After checking out other forums it didn't take me long to realize that I was pretty naive in my thinking that people can "police" them selves on internet forums. In retrospect I think that what's going on here is pretty much a blueprint of how it could/should be done for a forum of this type. This forum is a great resource and a great place to be, especially for a guy like me who live where I do in the world. It has given me instant access to a lot of things I'd never have known about otherwise. :)
