Oh yeah, definitley. I started with guitar, went to violin and piano, but always stuck with guitar. I'm sure it made a difference. I never really played covers, I would just pick up the guitar and play whatever came out, and I think from violin and piano, it made it come out a lot easier.

About 5 years now, but of that only 2 or less SERIOUSLY. I mean I've been serious about playing the guitar, but never did it seriously enough. Now I got into the Classical Conservatory at Brooklyn College in NYC. I taught myself everything except for maybe under 10 lessons on classical to get me ready for the audition.

ya i have no idea how to count ... ive owned guitars for 12 years but there's been a few spurts where i didnt play at all.

some time in HS I got into skating more than guitar and kinda left it for a while then and i didnt take a guitar or a bass to the dorms so i lost a year straight there.

Arin, that sounds similar to my tale, only I didn't play for a year and a half because my pseudo-wife hated hearing me practice. She loved going to my gigs, but listening to me practice at home? Brought out the fangs and a doorslam  You betcher AxisSuperSport I did a doorslam over there when I moved/got my new place :D

Then again, I hate hearing myself practice, which is probably why I don't....

Ya know ... i honestly dont think i actually "practiced" for YEARS and YEARS. after my initial learning curve i noodled a lot and have been writing songs n stuff but never really "practiced". So the last few weeks ive been kicking my own ass and practicing a lot ... going thru all sorts of painful exercise over and over again. Sounds obvious and silly to say but I totally forgot how much that stuff helps.

2.5 years. Still learning the basics and using it to cure my GAS ("Why the f$$$ do you need another guitar if you can't get anything decent out of this one!"). Usually helps.

I have been playing for 19 years. But started at 8 my parents made me take classical guitar lessons. Then I got caught up in the whole hair metal thing in the 80's ala George Lynch,Steve Vai,Yngwie Malmsteen. Well when that whole era was over I started getting into playing guitar in the styles of course Dream Theater,Alan Holdsworth,Al Di Meola, John Mclaughlin,Stevie Ray Vaughn.
