For Music Man: A 25th Anniversary Geek Question

Well, I got my 25th yesterday, and I couldn't be happier! She is easily one of the best playing and sounding guitars I've EVER been fortunate enough to own (and I've owned 19 Music Man guitars)...the sound is unreal, it just blooms and resonates like no other guitar I've played. The closest is my all rosewood ASS, but the 25th is so much more. Like I said, I couldn't be happier. The attached pic/proof of existence is just a quickie, I'd rather play now than take the time to do pics :).

So here's the geekish question: I finally took a break from playing to tighten the trem springs to my liking, and found that the trem cavity cover and control cavity cover both seem to be metal...this is new, I think. Yes, I am a geek, but What's the reason for this?

Great catch! I noticed the metal cover on mine as well, but just figured that's what they decided to use.

if the cavity is shielded and the cover is shielded the two act like a faraday cage to help block external noise from entering the cavity. dunno why the trem cover would be metal... maybe for consistent look/feel? of course i could be completely wrong, i have been before

i bleeb the bongos have metal cavity covers

but beautiful guitar! the series/parallel switching is awesome

That top SUCKS!!!!

All of my MM guitars have metal control/trem/piezo switch covers. Nice added extra shielding. And it looks better than copper tape...

Oh man...I always preferred flame caps over quilt...little did I know...that top doesn't only suck, it must be one of the "suckiest" around!:)

My thinking exactly, I understand the control cavity, but why the trem cover? But you're right, as BP points out below.

I played her almost seven hours yesterday, I haven't played that much since I was...well, ever! The 25th was ready to go right out of the box, the setup is PERFECT, she came with 10-46s on, intonation was spot on, all I did was add a touch more tension to the trem springs, and it was off to the races. Another amazing thing, in seven hours, I only tuned the guitar once at the beginning and one other time. And these are new strings! The 25th is very special indeed, I'm looking forward to spending another few hours playing today (the family is out of town).

Thanks for all the enthusiastic comments about the top. Truth is, I have a hard time photographing red guitars, and the top is even nicer than in the photos :D

A couple was watching me as I opened the case in the store, and as I pulled the guitar out of the bag, the wife said "Oh my God..." :D
