Not yet worked out the best way to hold the bow and play yet so need to work on that some more - I also need to figure out something interesting to play using one stringI'm sure there are technical exercise I would know if I was a proper musician.
As for how to hold the bow, there are various classical grips you may try. There's the french and the german double bass techniques, the first is more akin to the cello, the second closer to the Viola da Gamba, but you'll need a german double bass bow for that. On the violin bow you may try the Gamba grip itself, just google "viola da gamba bow grip" on Images.
Not quite of an exercise, and may be a little hard on a 34" scale instrument
