Dear fellow knuckleheads, I like punch. I repeatedly hear about the presence of it in the Bongo H and the Stingray 30th as well. How do they stack up against each other? I know you will say you have to try them and I am likely going to try the
30th at a local store very soon (maybe today). But still I cannot find a Bongo H locally to compare it to. Hard core Ray Babies or Bongoloids please do not respond unless of course you can be truly un-biased in your comments, which then would certainly be appreciated.

Thanx:)

I cannot comment as far as the Bongo's, but my 30th has more punch than any of my previous 4 strings. It also sustains for days! That combo of mahogany and stringing through the body is the best! I played four 30th's before I settled on this one. There were subtle tone differences in each. The one I decide on has the tightest bottom that I found and the best figuring in the neck. Just got lucky with those two features being on the same bass. :D

Well, I don't know whether to say anything or not, but I can repeat what I've said before. Last bar gig we played (whew, long time ago), I played two sets with my Bongo H and was of course quite pleased, being Lord Bongo and all that.

Third set, I cautiously broke out the SR4 30th and was expecting to not be quite so happy, seeing as how I'm Lord Bongo and all that.

I can only say that I didn't feel like I gave up anything at all in the Punch Department. The low-mids imparted by the mahogany are quite impressive.

If your choice is between the single H Bongo and the 30th SR4, you're not going to find (I think) one considerably punchier than the other, so it may come down to other tone factors and/or appearance, comfort, that sort of thing.

I think my Bongo 4H has a fuller sound than my 30th. I have tried to eq them the same to compare. My band preferred the 30th. Both sound great.
