I think the new 2 pickup MMs will be scaring the Lakland boys a bit...!

SR5 H/SC vs. Lakland 55-04... You KNOW which bass is going to have the growl..

This thing showed up at my house today.

I didn't know what else to do, so I restrung it with TI flats and played it for a couple of hours. Then I hung it on the wall.

It's very red. Maybe it's going to live here now.

Shhhhhh.

I've been through a few Laklands and didn't like the Bartolinis. They're just too polite for a serious EBMM guy like me. I want pickups that scare old people.

Now my basses, my EBMMs all have flats so I can, if I want to, tone it down, but you can't "tone it up" with Barts on a Lakland.

They're woody and warm and not likely to frighten anyone. And I need that, that ability to frighten people.

So these Kent Armstrong lipsticks on this bass - purdy cool. Hell, I like almost all basses, really, when it comes right down to it. You know? Basses are just righteous.

I'll always be a Stingray/Bongo guy, but it's interesting to sample what else is out there. That way I can report back to you on what the Old People think.

We're probably about the same age, aren't we? You want some Lawrence Welk DVDs?

That Lakland has got a funky, little thumb rest! It looks close to the E string... Any problems with that? So what's the deal with the lipstick pickups? Just a fancy cover for Js?

A former owner installed the little thumbrest and it might come off, although I have to say - the thing is in a really nice little sweet spot. I tend to play nearer the bridge, but when I force myself to use the thumbrest, it's in a good place.

I know nothing about Kent Armstrong pickups. Anyone know what's underneath the hood on those suckers?

This is a good bass, sort of unique for Lakland, but never fear - the Sapphire Black Bongo still rules the roost.

You'd be proud of me, Sterling.

I haven't yet installed straploks on the bass (that only happens when I decide to keep 'em for a while and I just got this one today) so I slung it on this strap I've had for a million years....the strap has saturn and the moon and little unidentified planets and stuff on it...and it was WAY low (by my standards).

I felt all rock and roll. Hah. Now all I need are some pants that hang around my knees, eh?

Now check your PMs.

jack its getting closer to an original bass..............laklands are very nice xerox's

:D

I too appreciate some Lakland models BUT when they ran the ad that stated how they started the whole "humbucker+single coil" config. and how everyone is now copying them I just kinda went, Dudes.... look at the body shape and the inspiration for your humbucker equipped basses, Karma, it's a bitch huh....

I thought someone your age would shun those newfangled CBDVDR things and stick with what you KNOW to work, 8mm film. :D

That's pretty sweet. The Scheff is one fo the few original Lakland designs that I like.

Now, did I infer correctly that this was a trade? If so, what went away? Bongo 4HH?

That looks like a a sweet one. The lipsticks look far more substantial than the old Dano variety. Funky little thumbrest and lots of knobs too.

You likey?

I agree. I think allot of people lean toward Lakland's as a Fender replacement. Probably because it's not cool to play Fenders anymore? Or maybe because Fender's QC has become so spotty. Or at I've heard that as I don't have any Fenders :D
