are you unhappy with the m4 and the g system?
what are you planning on using for a power amp with the Afx if you get one.

I tried one ( the standard/regular version) with a mesa 20/20 and a 50/50...I'll stick with a stiletto ace and g-major.

the mark iv is pretty awesome actually. i love it, but its heavy. throw in the g-system then its heavy and messy (4cm + power cables + drive pedals in the loops)...and while its versatile it all sounds like a mark. i was actuall thinking of getting a powered speaker with a flat response (not like guitar speakers) in order to let the axe fx take care of the cab and power amp sims. it just seems like a super versatile, light, reliable rig. when i hear all the recordings that people put out im impressed. maybe just some gas but its the worst ive had since i NEEDED a jp6

I've tried my AXE-FX Ultra with my Mesa 20/20, but wasn't really happy with it.

It now runs through a Tech21 PE400 (2x200W Stereo) SS amp - MUCH better : consistent tone with no need to crank to get the required sound from a Tube power section.

Obviously I have the Power Amp sim ON.

These things are the duck's nuts.

Well, all I can say is do what you need to do to be happy.
Myself, I don't mind the weight of a rig as long as it does what I want. One way or another you'll always have to bring gear to a gig and never have "enough" time to set it up. Just a fact of playing out in the smaller venues.
With the axfx you could just run through the P.A and monitors and ditch the cab altogether for live gigs that don't require a cab. That would lighten the load a lot.

I have the Ultra with two QSC HPR 122i FRFR monitors. I can get any tone. I love it. I did have the TC G-System and quickly sold it after I had the Axe-FX standard for a month, then moved to the Ultra. Absolutely no regrets. If you haven't been there check out their forum: Fractal Audio Systems • Index page

I like my Standard...I wish I had sprung for the Ultra at the time in retrospect...I think the best way to use it is with a powered FRFR speaker, but that's just me...the presets are junk, but you can dial in some amazing tones with it...

I agree. The presets are way too wet and fluffy. They do showcase what it can do, but if you take the amp and cab models there are some VERY good tones there. Definitely a tweakers box. If you understand or are willing to learn LFOs etc... it's awesome. Along with EBMM, Cliff and the Axe-Fx community provides great customer service too. Dweezil has been on the forum recently posting up patches he has tweaked. :)

I'll see if I can't record some Morse into AxeFX clips this weekend...I don't have the Ultra so I can't quite get to where Dweezil is getting with the Multiband Compressor, but it's still quite nice...

+1

Also, Bank C contains the best Presets, a lot of which are tweaked user presets adopted by Fractal Audio.

The Axechange is getting a lot of higher profile users uploading their patches too (eg, Dweezil, John Czalphabet)

The GAS on the JP forums for these things is off the charts. I REALLY want to try one of these suckers out!

I'm saving for one at the moment.
Probably a Standard is the limit of what I can afford, of course I'm factoring in a tidy sum on a decent foot controller also.

I think you're crazy for getting rid of the G-System...but I definitely have to say it can be a headache sometimes.

I don't have any experience with the Axe FX...would be cool to hear some clips and see it in action.

I have had my standard for about a year and love it. Check my YouTube channel under megalowmatt for some demos with the Silo Special.

I have used modelers from the pod "bean" days up through the XT live and there's no comparison. I can't comment on how it will mesh with the JP6 but I can get any guitar, any pickup configuration to sound great with the Axe, which was never the case with other modelers.

There are so many great sounds that come from this box and it's well worth the price.

Hope this helps.
