Evil Psychedelic Prog-metal Fusion tune: "Subterranean Rapid Transit" and Leedsheet

Here is a temporarily downloadable tune, Subterranean Rapid Transit, from the last Hectic Watermelon album with Jerry Goodman in the spirit of Halloween. I’ll leave it up for a few days for you. It is the darkest tune on the album. The lead sheet is available from the Members Area of the HWM band website if you’d like to read through it. Also, the empty solo bed is still there that people had fun shredding over last year before the album was released last Fall.

I’m now over half way through writing and recording on the new Marco Minnemann album we are doing with Mike Keneally, Alex Machacek, Phi Yaan Zeck, and some other very cool guests. The album is around the craziest drumming I have ever heard in my Termprary life, but the music I’m composed around it is actually somewhat normal and listenable…go figure. I’m busting out with all sorts of cool instruments I didn’t use on the HWM album like my banjos, nylon/steel strings, Nashville pedal steel, mandolin, Gretsch 6120, Marco’s Danelectro bari, and so forth. It’s sounding slicker than snot, but it is still a few months out. I’m also working on a bunch of new material for HWM album number 2. I’ve got enough material for an album, but it doesn’t all quite fit together yet, so I’ll probably keep writing until it feels more unified.

Temporary Download Link from 2006 HWM album, The Great American Road Trip - featuring Jerry Goodman.

Hey John - thanks for the update mate! The free track sounds killer, just downloading it now... Where did you guys record this? At your own studio or did you hire somewhere? Is the track all the Morse model thru the Egnator rig? C'mon John, spill the beans mate!

Bill

P.S: Maybe some other knuckleheads could post some encouraging words to an original artist like John instead of flapping ass and brown-nosing about the latest Apple O.S??
I agree with Bill, even though he lives in Queensland but his location still says Sydney... ;)

I downloaded the track last night and gave it a good listen this morning. The violin & guitar unisons are fantastic, and the chunky riffs and rhythms are tight as anything!

As always John, great playing & thanks for sharing!

Hey Bill, glad you enjoyed it. Ya, this is stock EB MM Morse hardtail into Egnater M4 Erect channel panned to one side and Modern panned to the other for the rhythm. The leads on the guitar are an Egnaer SL2 channel. These were sent to a VHT 2-90-2 that I later ditched for a VHT 2-50-2. Speakers are 2 Earcandy cabs with Govs and Swamp Thangs for these tones. Jerry enjoyed the tone of his violin through my Egnaters, so we stuckk with that. Yes, I recorded and engineered the album it at my studio.

Thanks for listening guys. Colin, I'd love to get down to Australia, but damn...that would take serious help in all aspects to make it feasible. Yikes! It's been over 10 years since I've been down there.

Also, Here is a direct link to a high quality (320 kbps) mp3 that should sound better than the one on our flash player. The HWM website flash player is lame because it forces me to encode tunes at only 120 kbps.

Lastly, here is the link to the lead sheet.

Thanks for signing up Ponch, since I'm not doing any gigging for a while, I haven't had much normal news other than, "Dear listener, after 99 hours of scratching my head on Marco Minnemann 5:4 over 3:2 over 15/16, etc. nightmare and drooling all over my keyboard like an insomniac vegetable, I actually recorded another :45 seconds of music."
So, thanks for being patient!

Nice Stuff!

BTW, you don't have very many vowels in your last name.

I was given a random array of consonants at birth by a Polish mathematician with bad spelling and a sick sense of humor.

Right on Ponch, that was a while ago now, it seems. Funny how the guitar community is such a relatively small world in the big picture! Thanks for all your support.
