Does annyone know when ebmm stoped filling the fret ends with wood filler? I do have this on my classic sr4 and not on anny of my other basses, including the new neptune blue. Or is this only done on the classics? I really liked this detail so find it a bit disapointing if this would be discontinued.

BP once mentioned that one of the harmless cost cutting
measures for the USA SUBs was to forego the fret end
filler. These were early 21st century ... first few years ...
so that implies that filler was still normal for the regular
production basses.

I also never understood how rhey made the frets shorter then the fb... i always tought that the process of fretting was done with a long fret whire wich they inserted in the fb and then cut off. And afterwards sand it flush with the neck. To make frets shorter then the widt of the fb they would have to cut the frets to size before inserting them. Or am i seeing this wrong?
