I own a 1989 Stingray it was born the same month I was!! Sadly looks like it never had a fretjob and so I guess its time to take it in. Some of the notes around the 7th fret just love to buzz. I seriously considered just getting another stingray especially since the color is black and I prefer more color. Anyways if it wasn't for the neck and maby the age I wouldn't keep it. The neck is BEATIFUL, I mean its maple and has darkened with time and just looks SO pretty. The wood grain is amazing and I doubt I can find another with this great a finish. Anyways back to the subject. Where can I get a fret job done at? And how much do they cost? I think there is a store somewheres around baton rouge that ONLY deals with basses.. I think its called PERFECT BASS never been there before but Im guessing I should call. Anyways just to give me an idea how much is a fret job normally.

Wow, I feel old now.

Sounds like a keeper, and for sure I'd get i refretted. I don't know where you are located, but you should et some recommendations from friends and take a look at some of the shop's work before hiring them to do the job. I've paid between $200 and $350 for fret jobs before (with the exception being my Gary Brawer experience).

Oh yeah, and maybe call Ernie Ball customer service to see if they do that kind of work. They would obviously be a first choice.

+1

I e-mailed a couple years ago about a '93 Stingray I had and was quoted a very reasonable price, even with shipping factored in. Plus, you already know how good the work will be.

Well sorta, I mean Right in the middle of baton rouge and New Orleans. Both guitar centers are an equal 40 miles away. A little town called Gramercy where they make zapps lol in St. James Parish.. But I spend most of my time Away from this place.

Oh, okay. I know exactly where Gramercy is. I pass that way a lot whenever I make a run to N.O. for a gig.

Spencer, The guys at The Perfect Bass don't have a luthier working there YET. They will have one very soon. The best place to take it to right now is Tim's Guitar in Baton Rouge. They aren't cheap, but they are the best around by far. Do a google search on them, they have a website, and I'm sure they'll be glad to give you a price.

I don't know if they do this kind of work, but you can always ask. I do know that they're very friendly in any case. I contacted them a couple of times when I was GASsing for the MTD Z-series and got great service...

Why not send your bass to EBMM and have us take a look at it? Most of the time a leveling and crowning is all you need. Give customer service a call at 866 823-2255

I am going to sound like a complete fool here.. but what is involved in a fret job, what is the purpose/goal? What would be the symptoms of requiring a fret job..

Usually it means replacing the frets after they have worn so low that playability is affected. Fretting out, buzzing and whatnot. Whatnot.
