No that is just how passionate the loyalists can be. There is just soooooooo much misinformation.

WE actually make our own bodies and necks from scratch unlike some of the guys you mention.

We spend gobs of time in set up as that is the proper thing to do....

Anyone seen a photo of Laklands Milling Machines or finishing dept?

SOme of the basses you speak of have higher retail prices because since they dont actually make the stuff there is an additional layer of expense..... Trust me, it is easier if you just have to assemble and set up the stuff.....

Sort of like restaurants that make everything from scratch. The food tastes better and the expenses are lower. Sure beats boil in a bag. :D

All I can say is I was floored at the amazing setup on my 20th SR5. Once I picked my jaw up off the floor after admiring its beauty, the setup was the first thing I noticed when played it the first time. Once I plugged it in, the sound was the second thing I noticed. :D

the way it was posed would tend to put this crowd on edge.

the its all in the delivery,

I still don't see anything offensive in the original post. And I thought that the less emotional responses were very interesting and informative.

Indeed. Seems that "Lakland" triggers emotions around here. I better get them outta my sig, don't want to face a Steamin' Stompin' Sterling on my computer screen in the morning! ;)

No worries, you can have Laklands in your signatures, boys.

We just habbin' fun.

Every review of a Musicman bass I've ever seen always mentions the frets and how perfectly seated, leveled and dressed they are. Roger Sadowsky did one in Bass Player back in 1993 (4-string SR) and he raved about the quality of the fretwork. Dan Lakin though, he only raves about The Dude!;)

Lol, again...he didn't say EB/MM specifically...was just saying in general under a price point. He honestly didn't know, and is now pleasantly surprised that EB/MM DOES do fret finishing.

So calm down and put away your weapons....:D

Actually, I think your friend's price point is way to high. There are a great many instruments in the $1K range, and some less than that, that have excellent fret work. EBMM fretwork is excellent. Another manufacturer's basses that I truly love have street prices well under $2500, and they Plek their necks then finish up in the hands of a craftsman in much the same manner as EBMM.

Has your friend had some bad experiences with expensive instruments?

Ken...

Me too! :D

Oli its the truth and a joke at the same time...chill baby

Oh, BP, I thought mine to be the truth and a joke at the same time as well... I was totally , just thought I'd tease a bit about how emotional it can get here in face of a rather innoccent question. Seems I should stop trying to be funny in English since it's not my native tongue... language differences at work again. Sorry.

Still, I think the question by itself is valid and interesting, and even more so the answer. I'd not have expected that the fretwork was done by hand (although it feels like) but thought that EBMM has rather some very refined machinery.

If I was living closer to the factory, I'd definitely love to come over for a visit and make a tour. Building instruments is fascinating to me, and if they're Music Men even more so.

Oli first off I understand the language barier. I also understand that you like both Laklands and our stuff. GREAT!!!!!!!!

I am a little more pointed about Lakland because of past issues and in my opinion a guy who portrays himself as a luthier that buys finsihed necks and bodies primarily in the fender shape and brags about neodynium as a disovery when the Bongo has had them for years....
