Anyone else have fret wraps on their guitars? I just picked one up today and wow, what a difference it made! I was very impressed with how well it actually helps keeps those unwanted vibrations away. I'm completely sold and buying one for my other guitar ASAP! :)
 
How does it work with a trem, though? I would imagine it could cause an issue with the guitar returning to pitch?
 
I wouldnt think it would interfere with the strings that much,its just a band that lightly wraps around the neck,not like a clamp.
 
open strings will still ring out,just not as much and depending on how tight or how far you have it up the neck.
 
I like the Gruvgear fretwraps for practicing sweeps; They deaden the open strings too much to just leave on, but depending on how tight you make em, you can always easily and quickly slip it up past the nut to get it out of the way.

Makes for cleaner sounding solos for recording; I don't think I'd ever use one live though.
 
I've just got mine 2 days ago: a set of 3 for 6 string and a set of 3 for 7 string
...selling them all :))) they may help for sure for recording solos though but they looks ridiculously big/tall on the neck, just hated the look.
if you use them all the time they will help you for sure to play very dirty :D
 
Boy do I feel out of touch. Had to google then you tube 'fret wrap'. So now I know. Thanks!
 
I've one on each of my 8 basses...it makes a huge differences on my tapping and also it's great for playing fretless with open notes (if you want them to fade away differently)

I just began using them a few weeks ago and they do make a huge difference for studio recording. They just barely rest against the strings near the nut to quiet unwanted noise, especially unwanted string noise (usually from palm of pick hand in my case). Makes post much easier when mixing down.

Although for live, I prefer no wraps still. I like the more raw sound with all of the overtones and easier feedback. Easily removed though in 1 second by sliding over the nut.
 
I found a velcro cable wrapper in the garage which I tested on my guitar and it seems to work fine as a fret wrap. You could get those from most hardware stores for $5 or so, don't know if you get extra wide units but they are adjustable which is the key thing.
 
Surely a scrunchie will do the same thing? And they cost about $2 from CVS! Or free from any bathroom used by your Wife, Girlfriend or Daughter!

I also had never heard of a 'fret wrap' and had to Google it to find out what it was. Not needed for the way I play guitar!
 
I love my open strings ringing out loud...

But I can see the benefit for the real shredders ( which I am clearly not).
 
I used to put a hair band on some of my guitars for gigs but nearly always forgot to slip them over the fretboard in the heat of a gig. There's actually one benefit of having a bigger/heavier fret wrap behind the nut, if you hit things with your headstock there's a good chance the fret wrap will act as a bumper. Might even work if the guitar is dropped to the floor.
 
I don't gig and my technique isn't that great at muting so anything to make it easier and sound better is a plus to me.
