I used to prefer maple before I started buying Bongos. I liked the look and feel and when I slapped or played harder the maple seemed to have a little more bite. Now I don't really care. Although I would buy a maple fb Bongo if they were made.

One fingerboard wood that doesn't get enough run is Pao Ferro. It looks and sounds gorgeous on my fretless Bongo. When I ordered it, I was worried I wouldn't like the look or sound as much as ebony. I was wrong, I wouldn't change a thing about it.

I have both maple and rosewood and i think both are great! I do think Mingus is right though. It seems to me through playing and owning both that the maple has a little more high end snap and cuts a little more. On the other hand the rosewood to me seems to be a little warmer than the maple neck especially on a 5 string. Both are great choices though and it strictly just depends on what style and preference that you have.:)

One day I tested out two StingRays one maple and one rosewood. For me it was without a doubt rosewood. The rosewood still had bite but was full bodied. It was "the sound" I always wanted in a bass.

I have a bid on a white sparkle Sterling on Ebay. I have been wanting a Sterling and my heart has been set on a sparkle finish. The StingRay is too hefty for me but the Sterling will be a perfect fit and I can still get that sound!!!!! :p

I like either one. I've had 2 'Rays with rosewood, but now my only 'Ray has maple. My off-brand bass has rosewood.

I like both but prefer Maple as it seems to be more articulate and glassier on the high end rosewood is warmer and fuller sounding to me. Depends on the bass also. For example PBass rosewood JBass Maple
