and I was nervous it might be better and mine would be inferior.......but, IMHO the Fender felt like a toy to me.
It is a Fender select Strat, HSS,.......looks like they can go for about 2 Grand new....... I would have felt pretty bad if I had paid that much for it. Case was really nice and plush, maybe that's where some of the $$$ goes.....It was a LOT lighter than the Silo Special, tone wasn't bad, but I could never go back to a lacquered neck..........I mentioned that I could feel the lacquer on the back of the neck slowing me down, he said "yeah, but it gets fast once your hand starts to sweat"..........I usually try to avoid sweaty hands when I am playing myself. Big goofy headstock looked pretty funny, I think it was a mahogany body, but the top was kind of flamed, looked like a thin maple top, contoured. Mahogany fretboard, 22 Frets, however; it looked and felt like it had only 20 frets.......access to way up high wasn't quite that easy, it was weird..........he thought the Silo Special had 24 frets due to ease of access before I told him it was only 22.

Let him play the Axis SS too......he really liked that as well. Not sure if he has been converted, I don't think he has a big GAS budget, but I was really proud of my EBMM guitars and they definintely showed his up. Can't wait until my PDN Axis SS gets here.......... I could probably play the Fender full-time IF I absolutely had to, however, I would HAVE to take the finish off of the back of the neck for immediate starters, and there is no guarantee that couldn't go from bad to worse.

I so agree with you.......Once you play these guitars......you don't even want to hold another finished neck in your hand!!!!!!! Please post pics when your PDN ASS arrives!!!!!! Congrats!!!

I play around with modding Mexican guitars. First thing I do is level and crown the frets and take the finish off the back and do the 2 quick coats of tru oil. Still not a music man, but much nicer than stock.

I have tried many other guitars since I purchased my AL SSS last year and I wanted to like and buy them - but I simply couldn't. There were always some other things that I wasn't fond of, but the finished necks were the deal breaker!

First thing I do is level and crown the frets and take the finish off the back

How do you do that? :)

Variety is not bad. I like variety. JP6, Axis, AL, SM, Luke, Bongo, Ray, etc. See, I like variety.

I like variety too...

But I like variety in Morse´s a LOT

:D

All is good...everybody here has been converted to MM and there´s no way back. The grin on our face when your axe "battles" a more known brand, is priceless.

the only finsihed neck i've ever played and it didn't feel like it was finished is the classic tented neck on my Limited Run Mint Green Silo Special...
cant hardly tell a difference between the finished and unfinsihed...
thats how awesome they are and i was a Strat and Tele player for the longest time...

Actually, I did! :D Nursery rhymes are great for beginners of all ages - there are often only two chords and they don't have to learn how the song goes before struggling with the chord changes. Really helps them focus on the fingering. This particular girl insisted on not looking at her fretting hand, ever, and invented her own lyrics as she went along. Very ambitious young girl. Fun lesson!

I thought I missed my Strat. I thought I could use one again. Played my Silo Spec and just lol'd. Don't need no strat!

Got my 11 or so year old Silo Spec from Canucklehead John North. These babies age WELL! Don't turn your nose to a used EBMM that's old and well cared for. Cause my Silo has "it" and it's age def is a factor.

Ever since I have been a member of this forum I always took notice to what brand guitar new EBMM owners played or play when they had there first NGD here and by a landslide it is Fender. That was my only company for over two decades before I bought my first EB guitar and it is very easy or natural feeling to go from one to the other especially if you played Tele's. I still own all my keeper Strats and Tele's and can never say a bad word about Fender though I own more EB's than I do Fenders now lol.But if I analyze quality in the materials used to make both guitars EB has a big advantage! If I wanted a Strat with a figured neck or body like some of my Balls you would be looking at 5K easy! Believe me you can pull out an EB and feel as confident with another player no matter what ax he is holding!
