FS/T: Candy Red Bongo 4H (MOTO PG)

So someone tell me about these Power Slinkys.

BTW, keep that Bongo, Shamus, you'll find what you need bro. My single H has become the "go to" bass.

Power Slinkys are bad-ass. Heavier guage and a darker meatier sound. I've got a 5'er pack sitting here in reserve until I think the stock slinky's are cryin' uncle. Too bad you nor James have got 5-ers. I'd send you this set to try but seein' as they are for a 5'er, you can't use 'em.

The 4 string set runs 55-75-90-110

The 5 string set runs 50-70-85-105-135

Tension goes up so the action can be dropped. Also, on a 5'er, really centers the low B. Tried a bunch of different strings and was amazed at how snappy the low B sounded using powers.

Hold on a minute shamus......Dont give up so quick....start with the ashdown flat and the Bongo flat and then work from there...i have a feeling that you are starting the bongo with the amp eq you used with the stingray.....

Well chaps after some initial scepticism about the Bong oI took the plunge - and as ever followed BP's previous advice about setting up the eq.
You can find my gig report in another thread but using Ashdown I now have two different sounds I can use.
The SR5 HS I get a rounded warm tone, still clean and cutting, and the Bongo has this mid/bottom end umph that shreds the rest of the band's frequencies.
Both are very powerful weapons but in my humble opinion, with the Ashdown you just need to take a fair amount of time to find the tone in your head.

Definately try out the power slinkies, they are the best strings I've used on any of my basses. The high tension takes some getting used to (they really give your fingers a mean workout at first) but the tone and balance is great, I'm all for em

hank, +1 on the finger workout. Bonus, though, is that you can lower the action.

james, try the strings first. Cheaper.

From my experience, Ashdown amps and Bongos are amazing together. I hope you stick with the Bongo. Well, at least until I can buy it from you.

I did that with the Bongo and thought I was going to be a Bongo player until I picked my SR5 back up. Game over.

Andrew, I think you've called it on this one...and since I have no desire to flip the TG Ray at all, I believe I've found my "go to" axe (paired with the Ashdown).

I don't think I'd be happy switching to a heavier guage than I'm comfortable with, so that plan went out the door.

I'm really quite happy with the SR4, and wouldn't mind getting another one at all.

Made a last-ditch effort tonight to save this from the chopping block, this time raising the action just a hair, as well as a few more EQ adjustments from both the Bongo and the Ashdown...

...what a world of difference! The notes are breathing now...more meat to the tone! After making the change, I played this along with my new band's latest cd (ACCEPT and Iron Maiden influenced) to see how it would fit in the mix, and it was a shoe-in!

To the guys who inquired about buying this...thanks anyway, but it's staying here!
