I thought this thing was dead.

People thought the same about funk...apparently neither is.

Another one bites the dust....

I mean not this thread, but the song... is it rock bass or funk bass or rock funk bass or funk rock bass or just bass. Does anybody in the audience actually care?!

And that, my friend, was exactly the answer I was looking for! :D

I'm really confused here Oli - I thought the bass part for Another One Bites the Dust was loosely - or even largely (!!!) based on 'Good Times' by Chic - also, spookily, played on a Musicman bass. That was a funky pop song which formed the basis for the first ever successful Hip Hop record. Three genres in one song - this is very scary!

Back to the thread - I play in an R and B style, which can incorporates 70's R and B stuff, including funk, if required - however I actually play in a 50's rock and roll band - I suppose that's 50s R and B? So yeah, I would say I can play funk, but I can also rock, hip hop and even polka (though I don't remember the last time I did) when the need arises!

"Another one bites the dust" was the track that made me want to play bass in the first place. A few years later I heard "Good times".
