I haven't noticed a smell with mine at all. Could it be a freak smell with that set of strings or has it happened with any other slinkys that you have used?

Guess I've never smelled my hands after playing but I have noticed a large amount of steel residue on my fingers since I started using regular slinkies. Weird huh?

my slinky doesn't smell - but i noticed when my new bongo 5 arrived it had a funny smell to it - i think it was actually the packing material they used - but it kinda of clung to the bass for a couple weeks - either that, or i've gotten used to it :)

my amp that ive had almost a year smells kinda funny. it smells sort of like smoke or something like that.

That would scare me, I do not like the smell of smoke from an amp! I had a Laney amp once that had that smell and the heat sink on the back of the amp was HOT!

One day I was playing so fast, that because of the Flash Gordon-speed continuous impact of the metal strings to the frets, the frets were flashing ............and the I woke up.

theres nothing wrong with the amp. it smelled like that when i pulled it out of the box, before i even plugged it in. im pretty sure its the tolex that covers the cab. its weird. but it doenst cause problems and im used to it. so yea. i would have been worried, but when i pulled it out of the box it smelled like that and i just assumed it was the tolex and went about my buisness.

My band practice room kills any other possible smell from my bass gear. Old beer bottles and ashtrays.

I have noticed that certain strings smell more metallic than others. It will go away as you break them in more.
