Wow thats really neat. I know one of the guitarist has guitar in that finish. Was that a actual finish option or was it some kind of one/two off or something.

It would be so much nicer without the basslines and if it didn't have a GOLD de-tuner. But it really is a gorgeous finish.

He may still have the original parts. You can always get a new tuner direct from EB customer service for $15.

If I couldn't find an original pickup, I would switch that Basslines out and put in one of the Nordstrand 3-coil pickups which are made for the Sterling (I believe).

The pictures make it difficult to tell but it does not appear
to be birds-eye maple neck as described.

This bass (minus the custom modifications) was one that we made for Winter NAMM 2002- otherwise known as the Year of the Sparkles. This was one of about 10 colors that we shot for the show, and just didn't make the cut. It would be pretty safe to say that is a one or two of a kind.

Sparkle fans- let the bidding begin!

Sparkle Sterling On Ebay

The guy who has this bass Is a Clown, I'm So sick of these guys who get a great bass with a cool rare color and trash the stock guts and think their bass is still worth 5 grand.
Get a Life Dude.

To help Anyone out who cares, The sterling pickups and preamps are built around each other and when you mix and match the Sound Sucks period, Horrible trust me I've done my homework.

So after emailing this guy he does not have the original pickup nor the original E Tuning Peg so he's trying to milk the world on the color.

Whatever.

That was a tad dramatic.

Truth is, not everyone is satisfied with stock. You can't argue the infallability of MusicMan products because this is not a universal concept. Its your opinion. I'm not saying MusicMan products aren't great. Heck I swear by them, but I can also respect someone else's opinion when they say "I don't like it."

Its not like these mods aren't irreversible. You can always order a stock tuning key direct from MusicMan and if you keep an eye out, you can find a original Sterling pickup when it comes up. As a Sparkle finish fanatic. I would snatch this in a heartbeat if I could, but I can't.

Yes Mods can be reversed, but I can tell you one thing, with out a few modifications to the preamp that bass will not sound good sound. That's not my opion thats reality. Second Ernie Ball does not and will not sell a you a Pickup

So your buying a pretty bass, l'll vouch for that, but great luck on that tone.

While most of us understand the matching the Pre with the original pickup would be preferable, I wouldn't have any problem buying this and either waiting for an original pickup to pop up on ebay, as they do, or popping in a Nordstrand, which are probably the closest to the stock pickup as you can find. If I was in the market for a Sterling I would be bidding on this and constantly looking to score an OEM pickup.

Plus, I have heard a couple MM's with non OEM pickups and while they didnt sound as great as the originals, I never thought they sounded out and out horrible, just different.

Stingrays and Sterlings Have TOTALY different preamps as they do pickups, it's not as critical on a stingray as it is for a Sterling, Just call Music Man And they'll will
guide you guys.

I do so many repairs and my best is always someone with a replaced pickup in a sterling coming for help. Gotta Love it.

You didn't read my post. I never said or even implied that you could by a stock Sterling pickup direct from Ernie Ball. I said you would have to wait until you find one pop up for sale, such as on eBay.

How can you be so sure the Basslines wouldn't sound good in it? Have you played this specific bass? Ernie Ball MusicMan basses are no doubt top notch, but they do not hold the monopoly on great tone.

As an Owner of 83 to date, Music Man Basses, I've have tried every combination there is and come to learn the hardway with Sterling Basses. The bottom Line was simple leave that bass stock.

Yes I've have tried that exact combination, and it sounded like an upright falling down a flight of stairs., But your right some people do like that tone, None on any of the records/CD's I play or the guys i go listen too but some do like it.

I do on an average 1 sterling a month either putting back the stock pickup or telling the guy to wait on ebay. Or gut the bass and completely replace everything.

DJ, do you have a tobaccoburst/rosewood SR5 you'd like to sell?
I figured I'd ask since you have more EB's that Guitar Center -
and they're all out.

Yup, that's me!!! Fuscia Sparkle was a NAMM color, as John as mentioned, it's an awesome color and really, really difficult to photograph.

Mine was a CLB (Casey Lee Ball) auction piece that I picked up after the fact.

I'm very tempted, but alas, negative $$ flow.
