Just saw this in vai.com - http://www.vai.com/News/tourdates.html at the very bottom.

Looks like JP is going to be the G3 2005. Right now Japan dates are put up. Hopefully there will be US dates soon (*fingers crossed*).

And joining Petrucci will be fellow EBMM artist Dave LaRue and Mike Portnoy. They were really good when I saw them back in 2002 (or was it 2001).

I heard they will be coming to Australia as well, l don't like Vai or satriani, but worth it to go see Petrucci. I just have to put up with all the cock rcoker Vai and Satriani wannabes in the audience.

I'd love to see a G3 with, John Petrucci, Steve Lukather and Steve Morse, l'd think it would kill any G3 with Vai, Satriani and some other 80's hair rocker. *cough*malmsteen*cough*

Scott.

Scott that was funny, just wondering what it is about Vai and Satriani that you don't like though, Malmsteen I can understand.

As for G3, I think it would always have to include Satriani because it is his show, my idea of a great G3 would be Satriani, Vai and Morse.

Satriani, l don't mind him, but Vai always seems to try and show off all the time, and trying to play as fast as he can, l used to have a couple of his albums, but could never get into them, the only times l listen to them is when l'm having trouble falling asleep.

Sorry, but alot of guitarists can't understand why l can't get into him (Vai), but l just can't, but l've found that the real die hard Vai fans are just 80's cock rockers, who think a mullet, tight jeans and white reebok shoes are still cool. Sorry to all you Vai fans.

Man, l dig Steve Morse though, I coart a live show of him playing in Living Loud, and he blew the roof off the place.

LOL - that was standard dress at a Rush concert I was at, those guys had not progressed one second since high school.

I can understand where you are coming from although having seen Vai at a G3 concert, he can really do some astounding things, but they are usually not enough for me to run out and buy his CDs.

Seriously though, I find Malmsteen much more guilty of showing off and playing as fast as he can for no other reason than to show how fast he can ply.

Steve Morse however, the second his CDs are available I get them, what I like is his virtuosity is in support of the music, as opposed to the complete opposite Malmsteen whose one aim is to show how quickly he can play.

I don't mind Malmsteen playing fast, but I can't stand him bad mouthing all the other musicians.

+1.

On a related note Steve Morse has had never anything bad to say. A really down to earth and humble personality, something Malmsteen could benefit from.

I have not missed any opportunity to see Steve Morse in the Bay Area in the last 4 years [though personally I prefer SMB/Dregs to Deep Purple concerts]. I really hope that one day I would get to see Steve Morse and Eric Johnson perform a concert together. "Distant Star" is one such example of song.

Fingers crossed for Aussie dates. :D

Saw Vai last year, seeing Satch next month but would kill to see Petrucci. This may be the only chance to see him for those of us Down Under. If we're really lucky he may even do some clinics.

I still see guys get around in those types of clothes, the last time was at the living loud concert, Steve Morse is the guitarist, and there was about 3 guys dressed like that. I just feel like going up to them, slapping them and telling them they give guitarists a bad name.:p

The thing is, playing fast doesn't really impress me anymore, Steve Morse he really impresses me, what a fantastic guitarist, he blows me away, and he's so humble. I don't know if any of you guys go over to the Petrucci forums or DT forums, but those are the types of guys l'm talking about, it's seems like, if you can't play 16th's at 300bpm, you suck, and man it gets frustrating, but it just seems people just post there just to show off, cause they will never use the words Sweep arpeggio, 16th, etc etc in normal conversations, some of the threads/posts just seem pointless.

I would kill top see Petrucci, l wish it was the LTE band, that would rock, cause l'm a big fan of all the musos in that group. I guess John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy will have to do. :p :D
