So I just got the DVD with Vai, Satch and Petrucci yesturday for only $10. I watched the whole thing when I got home. It is a very good DVD, with good sound quality. The stage seems to be a little too huge for Petrucci's set, since there was only 3 of them up there. I liked his set a lot, and wish he played one more song. However what always pisses me off about these live concerts is that the cameras ALWAYS go somewhere else during the CRAZY parts which everyone wants to see. Vai is of course doing his INSANE weird sh*t which for some reason really started to piss me off. He is an incredible technical player and musician and an arranger, but I personally cant deal with his ugly sounding composotions and the overuse of the trem bar. Of course he has songs that I really like, but he never plays them at concerts anyway. This is just my personal opinion, and I am not saying this with ANY dissrespect whatsoever. When it came to the jamming tho he was doin amazing stuff. He caught every note of what the other guys were doing and threw it back at em with crazyness. The jam part was definatly the best part of the whole thing next to Petrucci's set (IMO). Smoke on the Water was amazingly done as were the other 2 songs. On Foxy Lady I couldnt hear Joe sing that well, but than again he really cant sing all that well and as he says himself does not have a big vocal range. He was of course great as always with his set, but he was having some noise issues, which he talks about at the special features section of the DVD. I havent heard the 2 other guys talk at the special features yet, but I am prety sure you have to sit through looking at the sound check 3 times over. Well 4 if you want to watch it without the guys commenting. The only thing that kinda angered me was that you couldnt hear very good the conversation between the guys at the sound check. It is a great DVD with a lot of great music and insane playing from all 3 of the guys. But I would always make this kind of DVD better, with some more backstage footage and some updated tour of their gear and stuff like that. I would also add maybe the backstage before the guys go on the stage. In any case I highly recommend it anyway. That's my little review. Peaceness.

If you think living with your parents is bad, wait until you get married the response is the same.

They've left me alone, but they're just around this SMALL A$$ house. It is unavoidable to hear certain things that I really dont want to hear anymore. I'm just goin crazy in this small space. Do you guys remember being 20 around parents? That is if you were at all. Unfortunatly I am not going away to college, just going locally. Oh well  .

I rember being 29 and around my parents, due to debt problems last year. Not ideal, but I bit my tongue and all my Visa bills magically dissapeared. Took 2 years though!

Our Visa card was stolen but I didn't report it to the police, cause the thief was spending less than my wife :D

Hey I dont remember this being a thread about marriage issues. :p
PLus I personally dont wanna hear that at this EARLY point in my life. 20 years of age to be exact. I had a nightmare the other night that I was in my current state of life, but was expecting to have a baby with some random chick from the dream world. I mean it's not a bad thing, no offense to all you great ROCKIN parents out there, but there is NO way I could deal with that now, you get my point. Anyway, dont know whatta HELL that was about, but I remember this being about the G3 DVD concert!!!!!!!! lol
Buy it and WATCH IT! ;)

Thanks Roubster, I asked you to post reviews on another thread and you did a great job. $10.00 for the DVD -man that is a good price.

Yeah Vai seems to be either a love it or hate it proposition -I kind of like his odd compositions, although unlike say Satch or Morse I really can't listen to it for too long.

I have never heard Petrucci's stuff (I know blasphemy on the EBMM site) , so this might be a good way to finally hear it.

That's just because you have no balls ;)

Don't you actually need to have a guitar to experience these types of problems?

I used to be in this dodgy relationship 'I would never stop you playing your guitar' she said, yet complained when I did gigs!?

Needless to say she is history!

I bought it, and I pretty much regret it. Waste of the $.

All the effort, money, production put in to it for 2 damn songs? What the hell is up with that? Like we care about the jams, that many guitars playing the same old songs is just a bunch of racket.

Personally, I'd rather see each of their sets in their entirety.

The "extra's" were a joke; audio commentary on sound check? Please.

Well what was it that you exactly expected man???
The freakin thing is pretty long as it is. I mean I agree that Petrucci could have had at least one more song, and the special features should have been a bit more SPECIAL. However I think that the jams are the best part of the whole DVD, cuz you get to see these 3 awesome players just improvise mostly over classic rock music. I mean if you didnt like Smoke on the Water, then there is something wrong with you :p . Of course 3 guitars will see to have a lot of noise, and it did. But you gotta look and listen to what they are doing and how they are interacting on stage without any rehearsal for the solos and anything. So it is very unpredictable, which is the best part about it. I especially liked Petrucci's motions, becuase he seemed to always be confused at what was going on and was looking at what the guys were playing and just completely ripped some awesome stuff when it came to his part. Well anyway, I'm sure you can offer it to somebody here at the forum if you dont want it ;) .

I would have liked more Petrucci as well, althoug he only played 2 songs, they did take up the first 20 minutes of the DVD!

My biggest problem with the G3DVDs (and I have all of them and will likely comtinue to buy them) is that you do generally only get 3 songs each. I'd rather it sell for $20 or $25 and see 6-8 songs each, in addition to the 3 jam songs (which I wouldn't miss if they weren't included). But for the price - not bad. Not bad at all.

I have seen the G3 with Malmsteen which I own. I dont think there is a huge difference, except for the extras. That G3 they also had 3 songs each, so I dunno what the difference is. Another thing is that the stage seemed to be a little plain. Oh damn it, I dunno, I just like music and the guitar damn it!!! :D :p

You obviosly haven't seen any of the other G3 videos. :p

They have the entire set for each performer as well as backstage stuff and worthwhile extras.

This one was a joke by comparison.

What G3 vidoe would that be?!?!?!?! Put down the crack pipe Jeffrey, and go count! The ONLY G3 video that did not have 3 songs apiece was the previous one that had more by Malmsteen (I think it was 5 or 4), but with all the others, it has ONLY been 3. And as much as the "extras" may be cool, I've never watched any of them more than once. Give me more songs by the individuals! Please.
