I'm sitting at work watching the David Bowie Reality concert on my PSP while I work on an account reconciliation, and I just have to say that of all the players on the planet, the two whose gigs I would love to steal are Tony Levin and Gail Ann Dorsey.

The tone of her Marilyn SR and the single H Bongo is amazing, and her fee/timing is amazing. And, boy--can she sing, too.

Hmmm....Tony Levin and Gail Ann Dorsey. Two players I respect immensely and whose gigs I covet. Both play Musicman basses. Coincidence?

I think not.

Jason, do you happen to remember the Bowie concert that was sometime around 1998, which took place in a large facility on Buford Hwy? It must have been 99 degrees in that place -- the air conditioning wasn't working. And Bowie started 45 minutes late.

But the concert made up for the inconvenience. And Gail Ann was great!

That's a great DVD. I really dig it. Hey, her and Tony are both bald, too. Coincidence ?!?!

Same here. The day I saw that photo, I went to GC and bought one.

Damn. Talk about impulse buy!

Was the concert at the International Ballroom? That place had some killer shows for being a giant piece of crap venue.

I went to a little workshop that she did a few years back at the BP magazine NY gathering. I think she's totally awesome. Seemed like a really super nice person. She helped me to gain confidence in some of my bass player shortcomings so to speak. She claimed that once she gets past the 7th fret on the bass neck, she has a rough time knowing what notes are there :) . I have the same deal but never wanted to admit it. I asked her how she feels if she makes a mistake during a Bowie concert and she admitted they all make mistakes all the time. David laughs them off, which is cool - and she said he makes more than anyone else in the band. It was inspiring to see that an ordinary, sweet, person who didn't go to berkley, screws up, and admits to shaking in her boots the first time she played with bowie - can get a gig like playing with bowie. Yeah - she inspired me.

I never tire of watching that one.

First time I saw it, I was amazed to see all the MM basses she pulls out,
I thought, wow that is so darn cool! and she sure can play!
