You know, sometimes, when I'm pulling 24 hour shifts and patients are "difficult" and all hell is breaking loose with the OR's, it can sort of get you down. Then once in a while something shines through that lifts us health care people up. Being part of a donor and a recipient organ transplant has always lifted my heart and reminded me why I do what I do at it's core. The gift you gave is immeasurable and when I think of people who have done this, including people who are not family but friends who donate, it helps me "reset" things in life. Sorry, I'm getting a little mushy. I am so impressed with your work in research. It can be so hard for "rookies" to get established so I'm sure you're helping them get jumpstarted. Any recipients at Johns Hopkins? (my roots) Gosh, I have a great friend starting up as an attending/researcher in Pediatric Nephrology at Duke. I think I gotta teach him how to play guitar!

Ben,

Thanks for the nod, proud to be on the short list!
