Then dig this...

[nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRjEbQHVkfg&feature=related"]YouTube- Musicman Axis Super Sport - Danny Gill - Guitar Demo[/nomedia]

Danny Gill is so talented. I have a number of his teaching DVDs, he just comes across so well.

The MM90s are really getting in my head....I need to give this place a rest!

I like Tal’s vids. I love his blue Axis. I’m a noob when it comes to MM90’s as I have never played a guitar that has them.

The MM90 sounds really great both on the AL and ASS.

Rob is right AL and ASS with MM90 are completely different beast, thought the wood are the same (ash for both, maple cap for the ass)

I'll get another MM90 ASS one day probably with a maple neck

The art of the deal is where it's at man, it's unfortunate.

Oh, I had 2 MM90's, Axis Sport and AL, love em both. :)

There's just something about Rob's presence.......if you hang around and read his stuff too much, you have uncontrollable urges to buy MM90's and Als.

Why Jack, you have something of the AL or MM90 variety??

So guys... answer a noob question for me.

Are MM90’s like a humbucker, a single coil or something totally unique.

I’m just curious. Thanks

Something unique....rather like a beefy single coil but (to my ear) about the most musical pick-up there is. I play clean or blues overdrive and the MM90s are ideal. I have another guitar with Seymour Duncan P90s, but I prefer the MusicMan version.

like a single coil in most aspects but with a width of sound which kinda brings it one step closer to buckers. you can basically cover all sounds from single coil spank to bucker rocking stopping only when noise becomes too much. it has much too offer, more than straight buckers or coils, imho. of course, it doesn't do metal

Thanks for the replies guys. As I wrote before I have never played a guitar that had them so I don’t know the MM90’s range.

Noise??? Change your Silent Circuit battery young man!! (Not that I know what happens when you use them for mega distortion!!)

Nope - not like a 'bucker.

First time I plugged my MM90 AL into an amp at a low volume I kinda went Huh? - how weird that they sound like the SSS - I had the same quack cluck and clarity:eek: - then I turned the wick up on the amp, and they got a lot warmer.- back the volume off on the guitar and they got a mellow clarity to them.

I like MM90's but I am glad that I also have the "SSS" in my toolbag.

Back to the question raised on buckers - I resurrected my interest in the guitar solo on Allright now (thanks to OlPlayer and a great Lick library DVD he has). Loadsa guitarists think they are playing it right but more often than not they are playing an "approximation" of it. Kossof was a huge influence on my guitar playing. I get THE sound I want for this from the JP 6 buckers - nothing else comes close.
