A friend of mine is saving for an EBMM, but bought an OLP to hold him over...not sure about the logic there, but he just had his first kid so his wife has the checkbook on the short leash. I told him I would give it a setup so I brought it home last night.

Anyway, he talked the sales guy into throwing in a gig bag with the OLP. It's a Gator "Slinger Pop N Play" with a backpack style shoulder strap...no big deal. In the strap is a pocket for an ipod with a little hole for your headphones...a little trendy, but not too bad. Right next to the ipod pocket is, of all things, a bottle opener...wtf?

Why would you need a bottle opener on a gig bag? Can you imagine being in the meeting where that decision was made? Was it a tossup between the bottle opener and a pencil sharpener? Why not a fingernail clipper?

Maybe it's just me, but I thought that was odd and laughed a little about it.

I've gigged places where that bottle opener would have come in handy to access the free beer...

Doesn't sound silly to me. I carry a bottle opener in the compartment of my hard cases, just in case the free gig beer is Corona or something else that doesn't have twist caps.

Though i must say that a gig-bag mounted bottle opener is useful, it's also pretty funny to me.

I usually use a screwdriver or whatever I can find.
