I would like your opinion on the following question.
On 4 strings bass, the stock strings are 100-80-65-45. Strings with heavier gauge (110-90-70-50) should have more tension. Do you think it should be possible to get them closer to the neck as the stock ones, or will this extra-tension be compensated by the fact that the strings are bigger and would buzz on the frets ?

Also, will there be any problem on the Bongo with heavier gauge, due to the compensated nut ?

I'm asking befor changing the strings, as I hesitate between "classic" gauges and heavier ones.

Thanks in advance for you opinions.

You can still get very low action with heavier guage strings. I normally use 110 for the E but have used 115.

If you change, you'll have re-adjust string height and truss relief.

With the nut, I would imagine EB has taken into account that different guages are likely to be used on the instrument.
