Yeah it is great - while driving on 275 you see the GC sign right in front of Sam A.

I'll have to check it out. I was supposed to be in Cincy for the Findley M. Parade tomorrow... but things happened. Argh. Had to give up my opening day tics, too. Thanks for the info. I'll check out Tri-Co in a few months.

woah...
you guys have more than one GC in your state?

:)

Jackson, MS is about 2 hours away from here, depending on traffic.

The guys in Jackson responded in much the way BP described. Except with me it was just a slightly different kind of mix-up.

of course, it always helps to be friendly with the sales staff.

LOL... I'm babysitting my friends bar right now. The friggin game is blacked out on espn in Indiana and the bars direct tv doesn't pick up fox network and I can't find a radio to listen to.... I'm bummed, to say the least.

Oh well, I can check the boxscores on the bars laptop...

It's not blocked out in all of Indiana. I was watching it during lunch here at work. ;)

Sometimes their good, sometimes their not... I have a question though, I was in the local GC on Thursday and some buddies of mine who work there showed me a stingray that had just been sold. It was a BFR Stingray 5, Gold body, with a rosewood neck. It was gorgeous, had all the paperwork to it, but the case was a standard musicman case, and pretty scuffed up. Do the BFR basses come with the standard case or are they supposed to have the nicer cases like the guitars do? Either way it doesn't bother me because I'm not the guy who bought it lol, but I am very curious about that....

Hey man, one of my really good friends is the store manager for Charleston SC. He is the guy they send to under performing stores to turn them around and get the tracking better. That is his third store they have sent him to so I am glad to hear you had a good experience!

GC Experience (an oxymoron?)

It is a crap shoot and I live in the Dallas area, lots of stores. They have the entry level people that know a little something about their area, some midlevel (assistant managers), and the 2 or 3 store managers that know the most. So from my experience I gravitate towards the guys that can make the deals and have the most knowledge (the managers). If you are in a strange part of town you don't stop and ask a 5 year old the directions to the local Guitar Center. It is kind of the same thing at GC, the entry level guys usually can't help people on the professional level. Since I was born with an IQ of 180 I have a hard time understanding people needing time to develop knowledge (yeah that is why my parents and some others probably wanted to kill me at some point in my adolescence/young adulthood). So I don't give them a hard time just go to the guys you know can help you.

I just bought an 88 Sabre from the Guys in Fountain Valley, Ca., and had a great experience. They emailed me back, I called them, got an honest description of the bass, they emailed me some very good pictures, and we had the deal done and shipped that day. The bass was as good as they described and the 2 people I dealt with were very knowlegeable. I hate buying something I can't play before I buy it but they made it a really great experience. Kudos on this round.

This is a good thread for this gem: I call one of my local GC's looking to play a HS Sterling, so I find a store that has one. Before hanging up I tell him I wish they carried Bongo's, the kid gets all excited and says they have a bunch, I'm like no way, he say's " let me transfer you to the Drum department they have plenty!" I'm thinking, no wonder you guy's couldn't sell them, I had a good laugh, tough truly sad.

GC has nothing on Long & MacQuade here in Canada... they claim to employ musicians as salespeople but my god, some of these guys are just unreal. I'd have better luck buying a car at a hospital.

I wonder what you guys would get from the salesperson if you went into a GC or L&M anywhere shouting about your Balls and ASS's. It might help both you and the salesperson if you are specific.

+1 You can't expect them to be as informed(read:eek:bsessed!) as we are. Be more patient and understanding and I'm sure you'll get better results.

I'm proud to say I haven't freaked out at anyone in a music store yet. I usually just blame myself for being too unspecific. For example, yesterday I was basically just said exactly what I was talking about, and stopped being generic (Bass amp head) and everything was cleared up. When I ordered my bass in August the salesman didn't know EBMM made basses with non-matching heads, because he had never seen one, and I just calmly said I thought they did, and was positive they used to, but didn't deny the possibility they stopped.

Just in case that was directed partially towards me:p

It wasn't really aimed at anyone in particular, in fact it was just as much a reminder to myself. Full disclosure, I work for Sweetwater Sound.

Ah, just wanted to make sure I didn't seem like one of the people who freak out about everything, and yell at clerks just cause they don't know everything about everything (Not aimed at any one here, just for the record).... or something like that

Ive never had a negative experience in a music shop really.

Was trying out a bass once and didn't like the amp they wanted to put me though, as it was the only one that was set up at that point..
That slightly confused me.
