I spent over an hour at GC playing a Classic SR4 with satin neck. I loved it and the tone. I prefer the neck profile and feel over the Classic Deluxes.

If you all can help with my decision though: should I consider this one (black, RW, not necessarily a first choice) or wait to order a current model 2-band (get to choose my color)? I wonder if the differences between the two would be noticeable in tone? I'm guessing probably not too much.

I guess you should base your choice on if you perfer the finished neck or not. If you do perfer the unfinished, you should hold out until you find the one in the color you want. Try contacting forum member Zombi and see if he can help you find the color you want. I am sure he would be happy to sell it to you. JOSH

Well he did say that he likes the GC Classic better than the Classic Deluxe so a finished neck is out.

The only tangible (to me) differences between the GC Classic and the modern 2 bander are the contours, the bridge and the color options (I know the Classics are also string through but I see that as a non critical difference). I will take the contours. What is important to you?

Ha ha...I'm a she BTW, I know my profile doesn't make it obvious. :)

The most important things to me are the modern neck and 2-band tone. If the modern ones sound anything like the Classic ones I would be happy with it!

Have you even checked out Bass Central's website? They have been stocking 'regular' 2 band StingRays.

And yes, the classic's 2 band sounds the same as my '07 2 band StingRay. It's the same preamp.

Great! That's what I wanted to hear Caca de Kick! :D I'm in love with that 2-band sound!

I forgot about Bass Central! Thanks for the heads up on that and Steamthief's suggestion!

I had a classic deluxe in white and returned it for a classic in surf green. I didn't like the glossy neck. To each his own.
