Well, I called the Murrieta CA guitar center Monday looking for some used Sterlings and was told they had one, a pearl blue with a rosewood neck standard pup config Sterling that had fallen off the rack and received some damage after falling onto a rack unit. After hearing how bad the damage was(a fairly deep 3 quarters inch ding, about an inch long say dime size wide) and after hearing the price asked for I thought it was an acceptable deal and told them I was interested. Well, the price they gave me was minus the case. I asked the salesman why, if this was a new Sterling but just damaged why was it being sold as a clearance item without the case? I was told that that is what GC does with a clearance item, they seperate out the case. Has anyone else ran into this sort of thing? Thanks,

We've gone 'round more than once on the case issue, and I don't remember what the final answer was.

But.

If I were you, I'd say something such as, "Those basses come from the factory with a case included in the price, and since I'm taking this old damaged thing off your hands, you should probably toss in the case, too."

ya - just do what jack said.

if they told you the case was not included after they charged your card or took your cash id figure thats not cool. but, since they told you before taking your money it is what it is.

Jack is right we have been over this before, GC when doing a clearance on a bass or guitar that comes with a case brings the piece down to as close to cost as possible. when a guitar comes into a GC it is separated from the case because the guitar and the case are coded to two different departments, good or bad thats just the way it's done. so when you see a clearance price that means the price of the cost price of the case has been taken out of the bass, if you want the case you can get it.

Oh don't thank me, I just told them that you took your story up to an online forum and the owner of Music Man AND Guitar Center read it regularly.
