I was at the GC in Plymouth Meeting, PA today. They had a black AL with white pearloid pick guard, a full rosewood neck, trem and 3 p90 black pups. The fretboard did not say BFR, but I thought you couldn't get this combination. The music man web site doesn't say anything about this either. Is this a rare one?

I played it unplugged. It needs some attention - it has a good amount of fret sprout and needs a good wipe down. But the neck felt smooth. If anyone is interested, call Brandon and tell him you heard about it from Jason. There should be a little wiggle room in the listed price.

They also had a true gold silo with maple neck. Looked like a good price, too.

I also played a JPXI 7 string unplugged. The neck is a little too thin for me, but I could see how people would like that guitar a lot. I love the onyx finish and feel of the guitar (other than the thin neck).

I'm pretty sure that Albert Lee with the 3 MM-90s and rosewood neck was a run for Guitar Center done for either late 2010 or early 2011. I don't think very many of them were made (maybe 20 for the entire run?)

JasonT,

Glen reported:

"On the GC MM90 with full rosewood neck, the body is actually mahogany. The combo of the rosewood and mahogany with the MM90 pickups produces sweet tone for days. The guitars have been ordered by GC in Black, White and Gold as stated in this thread. However, they have had the most success with the black so they have reordered it in small runs several times..."

So, don't know if they are rare per se, but I can tell you that mine is fantastic to play and really would be worth you checking out. Fret sprout is an issue on mine, although it's only 4 mos. old from EBMM. It must have sat in a very dry warehouse in GC-land. That said, when I got my NOS ASS a couple of years ago, sprout was an issue, but I stayed on it with some fret oil for a few weeks and the wood re-hydrated with no problem. Now the frets are flush with the board. I am in the process of doing this with the AL.

Hope that helps.

Thanks all for the info. I totally missed that announcement.

Ozzy - sorry, didn't have time for pics today. Quick trip. I'm sure if you're interested, you could call GC and ask.

assMan - I'm not a p90 guy, but I posted it because I wasnt aware of the limited run and recalled others wanting p90s with a rosewood neck. I thought someone would jump on it.
