I'm sure this is in the wrong section; I couldn't find a gear section, and I know this section gets a lot of traffic (I'm here everyday to help, if I can!), so my question is this:

I have a lot of gear, but it's all over the place. Where I'm at now, I basically just have a few guitars and an amp. But I've got some effects right now that are useless unless I find something to run them through.

I'm looking to get a power amp and some cabinets (or monitors) to run a few effects through, but I want to hook up some recording stuff to it. I don't really want to spend a lot; it doesn't need to be high quality, because I've got plenty of that stuff elsewhere, I just don't feel like shipping it. It's a quick fix.

Basically my dilema is what is the best thing to do for running some effects and some recording stuff. I've got a two guys here who have a full blown studio for post and mix-down stuff, one is all analog and one is all digital, but I need to have my ducks in a row before I get there.

I know I can get a Mesa Simul 2:90 (already have one) with an Eventide (need another one) and some Carvin cabs (got those, too), but I'm in a little bit of a pinch. I can't really afford to shell out $4000 in this situation, but I don't really feel like waiting another year until... basically, all my **** is in Virginia, and I'm not moving it all until I move to NC in August. I know it sounds silly, but I have everything how I want it, and I want to do it all at one time, not just send a few things down to Florida for my personal pleasure. Can you imagine trying to take a custom car apart and only sending half of the parts?

I just need a cheap power amp and preferably 2 - 2X12 cabinets (or a PA and some monitors that will do all of this stuff) to run some effects through, with the ability to go out to a recording device. That's just what I do. Any other suggestions would be very welcomed.

Any ideas?

carvin stuff is pretty easy to find used and cheap. it's good and can handle getting beaten up. so it's pretty good 3rd and 4th hand stuff.

were you moving in nc? lived there for 10 years, can tell you good places to eat.

Ha ha, that's pretty funny...

Raleigh, NC. I was actually just in Wilmington Friday night.

I like Carvin stuff, believe it or not. I used to have a few power amps by the, and I still use their cabinets.

I'm looking for a cheap solution to solve my problems. I've done my research, but I'm sure guys on here have got some good advice as well.

P.S. I used to work in Wilmington and go to the Dock Street Oyster bar on the regular... and a little Charlie Brown's...

P.P.S. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, I just really miss what I used to be able to do, and can't afford to recreate it.

there's an automatic sushi place in chapel hill @ the corner of franklin and columbia that's the best I've seen in NC, and a sketchy bottito place across from the bank of america called cosmic cantina. very good despite its appearence... one time when I lived in asheville (3 hours away) I drove there for lunch (when gas was still hovering @ $1...). the only place I ever ate in raleigh was the "kanki" habachi steakhouse at crabtree valley mall because it was just so cornball and campy.

my hat's still in with the used carvin stuff, but I have a friend who swears that peavey's studio stuff is just as good for a cheap used studio as carvin's... but I have my doubts.

Really, you have a ton of options there - totally depends on how much $$$ you want to put out.

For a quickie setup, you could always try a PodXT or one of the other modellers through a poweramp- that'd give you a ton of options, effects, etc for a minimum of cash. Power-amp wise you can find a lot of bargains- I have a Peavey 60/60 that's sounds excellent (tubes but flat reponse and very durable) and you can find them pretty cheap on ebay, etc. As for cabs, you can probably find a ton of used 2x12s that will be pretty inexpensive on eBay or the Gear Page.

Even cheaper, the Pod and a Keyboard amp will sound fantastic for a few bucks and you can record direct with it.

I guess I'm just really looking for a cheap power amp. I've got everything else I need. I'll probably try to pick up a Carvin or Peavey used somewhere.
