OH MAN!

I just listened to Hemispheres and Farewell To Kings after many years. GREAT STUFF!!

And just for good measure I also listened to Signals and part of Grace Under Pressure.

Geddy's tone kicks ass! Is anyone out there able to get that tone with a Sterling and an SVT-4PRO?

It's like an electric buzz!

Man oh man ... Signals was the first concert I ever saw (at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto). Haven't missed one Rush tour since!

In order to get a Geddy tone with a Sterling you may want to try this.

Hold the Sterling sideways and parallel to the body, with the headstock at eye level - left arm fully extended.

Grab the Sterling near the neck pocket with the right hand.

Pull the Sterling's upper bout rapidly and forcefully toward the groin.

Break into
We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx

Other than that, I don't think even Geddy can get the Geddy tone any more:D

The bass line for Circumstances (off Hemispheres) just blows me away every time I listen to it. And the tone of his Ric on Cygnus X-1 (off A Farewell To Kings) in the beginning, when it sounds like it's getting closer, and closer....prior to Alex and Neil coming in--just insane!!

It is amazing how his tone hasn't changed THAT drastically after all of the different setups he has used over the years. Rickenbackers, Fenders, Wals, Steinbergers and a few others that I can't think of right now along with a few different amps as well.

He does have a very unconventional way of plucking notes though. That may have something to do with it.

Totaly agree That Cygnus X-1 Sound was the reason I got a Rick, But after the factory tour the only bass I'll ever purchase is a Music Man. They put so much precision and care into every instrument I can't see how anyone would want anything else.

I was talking about bass tone. But I'll keep this in mind. :D

I don't know about a single H Sterling but an HH Sterling or HH Stingray in either the #2 or #4 position, heavy on the mids and a little grit dialed in on the SVT4 or a Sansamp BDDI should come close to nailing it.....
