Quality and durabily = Mesa road ready cabs imo, expensive, but you state this isn't an issue.

MESA Boogie 4x10 Road Ready Bass Cabinet

Cool, but I take my screen name from the Roman legend.

+1 on the Mesa 4x10

I am completely sold on 10s for bass - absolutely love the punch a set of 10s provides.

I realize everyone will promote their favs, so here's mine - Avatar (Avatar Speakers). A few guys around here use 'em. Neo-based Eminence speakers, well constructed, very reasonably priced (under-priced, perhaps) and easy on the back.

I moved from Hartke 410XL cabinets to a variety of Avatars, initially playing a 210 & 112 then settling on a 210 & 410. In my initial experience, their 210 cabinet blew away my 410XL in a side by side. (read here: 4th of July Explosion of Tone)

I've tried their 2x12 cab as well, but the 12s aren't for me after all... For me it's all about 10s! The cabinets are offered in Tolex and carpet. If you go for the carpet covered cabs you get a trial period (2 weeks?) where you can return the cab if your not happy with it.

Good luck and enjoy the search for YOUR tone! :)

I had an Ampeg cab with tolex, and tore that thing up. Now I have a GK cab with carpet, and it seems to hold up a lot better. I'm a carpet man all the way now!

I would highly recommend the Ampeg SVT-410HLF

It is ported for maximum efficiency. Horn for great clarity. The 10's provide great punch!

This cabinet is fairly portable, reasonably affordable ($600 if you bargain with a Guitar Center employee) and VERY versatile.

It sounds great with my SR5! For rock music, Ampeg + Stingray = GOLD!

Just for the record, I wasn't promoting my fav, just matching a cab for his head (which I have found to be very important when choosing a rig).

From what I've played, it seems that most of the qaulity 4x10 cabs will do ya right nowadays. It is the cheapies with junk speakers that can get you into trouble (but even those sound good at times).

While we are on the subject of favs-since I got this cab, I haven't looked back.

Not bad to move (as long as stairs aren't involved). I have also heard good things about the Bergantino NV610.

The best accessory any musician can have...a roadie....or a semi drunk friend to carry stuff.

I use an SWR Goliath, III and like it a lot. My Aguilar GS212 goes to a lot more gigs than the 410. A 212 is a great choice and sounds a bit smoother than a 410.

Listen here. It is the best advice you will get.

If your looking for volume, ive never had any luck hearing myself when using other peoples SWR Cab Rigs.

I own both the Ampeg 4x10HLF
and a mesa Boogie 8x10

Those mesa cabs Kill
and the ampeg has a bit more dirtyness to it.
Either is an excellent choice

For versatility, I'm a fan of having two 8 ohm 2x10 cabs, so you can take one or both depending on the venue. I also own an SWR 8x8 cab which blows any 4x10 out of the water that I have tried. If you are stuck on getting a 4x10, any quality brand will do the job, and then it just gets down to budget and personal preference.

In a van, down by the river...
I was wondering if anyone was going to mention Eden! I've got the 410 XST (1,000 watt @ 8 ohm) and I love it!

IMHO, the the only way to go is to A/B a bunch of them with your head of choice and your ears will tell you what's best...the differences can be huge!

Whichever you decide, good luck!
