Hello all,
I am getting feedback from my JP7 guitars. I do not however get feedback at all from my other guitars. I believe it has something to do with the springs because after I do a palm mute at high volume the springs make sound and that causes feedback....

Does anyone know a method to stop this?

It is terribly annoying during a performance.

Help please!

Yea I just got 2 in last week and I played my first gig last night with them and I am getting feedback all over the place and I had to crank my NG to stop it but I lost sustain...

They sound amazing but damn I need to kill that...

Yea I'm not sure what it is. I had a temporary one before this one while it was being made and it didn't have this problem at all.

I have the same problem with all of my tremolo equipped guitars when running into a high gain amp. Really notice through my old Dual Rec and ENGL Powerball.

I take a small piece of an old polishing cloth, fold it up, and lay it on top of the springs. I use enough cloth so that when I put the tremolo cavity cover back on it compresses the cloth and dampens the springs.

Mightypudge is right. If it is indeed simple trem spring vibration, you have to find a way to stop it. On my old Ibanez RG I had some issues with that, so I used bits of mousepad (no joke) wedged in there gently to prevent excess tonal vibration. But I have never, ever had a problem with my JP in this regard even though it is setup with springs the same way any trem guitar is.

Oh, I'll add that the combination of high gain and lots of compression will bring out negative tonal qualities in just about any guitar, for example bad resonance or fret noise or picking noise or bridge noise or nut noise... A good idea is to also re-examine your style of playing and find a good medium that isn't "gain to 11, compression to 11" but instead compromises a bit to find a balance. Good luck!

My Luke once told me that I sucked, but I took that as negative feedback....

put some plastic that can shrink with heat (what you use when you want to isolate wir, sorry I don't know the name in english)

put it around your spring and use a hair dry to shrink them ====> no more feedback

It is so annoying when you have the perfect tone and everything shines through (ex. pinch harmonics, sweeps, notes, etc.) and there is that one tiny little thing that just drives you up the wall that you can not seem to shake.....

YARRRRRR!!!!

I tried the mouse thing on the springs... It helped a little but I am still receiving feedback... I want absolute silence without sacrificing tone...

Maybe something else other than the guitar is making the noise. I remember once I had my amp so loud I could hear my Dunlop strap locks squeaking through my amp. Now that was loud!

The ENGL's are loud amps with a lot of gain on tap, so they will amplify everything. In all honesty I'm surprised the mouse pad trick didn't work. Like I said, my cloth idea is the perfect solution. Works like a charm.

Oh, and I stopped using squeaky strap locks. :)
