I've had my JP for a few months now... I don't know if I'm used to the neck profiling yet... I picked up my Silo the other day, and the neck still feels great... when I play my JP, it still feels a little bit weird. I have no problems playing it though... is this normal?

I've heard from a couple people that the JF neck may take time to get used to. Just stick with it, you have a great guitar there!!

what's the main difference in the neck that is giving you "trouble" so to speak?

I'm a lefty and have never played and can't play a JP.

it feels weird... feels wide and thin so i don't find it as comfortable as the SS... so does this mean I'm not used to the JP?

I hear you. I have played many different guitars and my Luke took a week or two to get used to. it was much different than my sch3cter neck which sounds it is like the JP neck, wide and thin.

I think the problem you have is that the Silh neck is SOOOOOOOOOO small(too small for me to play!!!) and the JP is wider(and alot thinner) its hard to make a very comfortable transition between them

I can hardly play Silh's

they are awsome guitars but the necks aint suited for me I have been an Ib@nez player for many years and the JP is more along those lines

thats what I have found and it doesnt take a genius to figure out the extreme differences in both necks

The JP has a 15" radius neck (flat-ish), is shallow from top to bottom, and a 1-11/16" nut, while the Silo has a 10" radius (more curve) with a C shape neck and a 1-5/8" nut.

I doubt I could ever get used to a JP, while the Silo fits me like a glove. For others, I'm sure it's just the opposite. It's all what you like and what works for you.

USA, for now, but a Brit at heart
Everyone is different and has different preferences, partially based on how and what they play as well as the size of their hands and fingers, and their guitar position when they play.
For example, the silo, axis, AL all Great guitars, but the neck doesn't work thaat well for me, while I love the luke and jp6 neck.

thanks guys... i love the jp a lot... and giving it up would be real hard... sorry adam ;). it still is pretty much everything that i've ever wanted in a guitar. the neck isnt bad. i'm just saying it isnt as comfortable as a silo neck because of it's flat C shape as opposed to the Silo's C shape.i After some careful inspection, it would seem that on the silo, the C shape fits right into my hand along the curvature between my thumb and index finger. while on the JP, there is some gap which may be the reason why it feels a little weirder.

Even though I have relatively small hands, thin necks cramp my hand after only a short time of playing. Plus, as BP has pointed out, there's less leverage for the thumb to grip for bends and vibrato.
